David Henderson Joins Hartford Stage as Director of Marketing, Sales and Communications

By:

The Tony Award®-winning Hartford Stage, under the leadership of Darko Tresnjak, Artistic Director, and Michael Stotts, Managing Director, today announced that David Henderson has been appointed Director of Marketing, Sales and Communications, beginning April 9, 2012.

David Henderson joined CENTERSTAGE in Baltimore in 2009 as Director of Marketing and Communications after stints with the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Community Center in Manhattan; Common Cents/Penny Harvest, a youth education program in 800 New York City schools; and after seven years as Director of Marketing at Second Stage Theatre, one of Off-Broadway’s premiere companies.

While at Second Stage, Broadway credits included the Tony Award-winners Metamorphoses by Mary Zimmerman and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee by William Finn and the Tony Award-nominee Reckless with Mary-Louise Parker. Off-Broadway credits included the New York premieres of August Wilson’s Jitney, Stephen Sondheim’s Saturday Night, Athol Fugard’s Sorrows and Rejoicings, ReGina Taylor’s Crowns, and Ricky Jay’s On The Stem, as well as the critically-acclaimed revivals of Edward Albee’s Tiny Alice and Kenneth Lonergan’s This Is Our Youth.

Henderson spent seven years at New York’s Young and Rubicam Advertising before switching to the not-for-profits arts field and serving as communications manager at the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra in New Orleans and The Toledo Rep and as marketing director at the American Stage Festival in New Hampshire.

“David brings considerable audience development and marketing expertise to Hartford Stage at a time in which we are going through a critical transition launching Darko’s tenure as artistic director,” said Managing Director Michael Stotts. “His experience at CENTERSTAGE in Baltimore and Second Stage in New York City where he had to re-brand those organizations will be applied to what we are doing here at Hartford Stage. David is also a master at developing promotional partnerships and creating imaginative sales strategies, which will undoubtedly help to grow our audiences.”
