CAPA Unveils its Five Shows for the 2016-17 Season

Rebecca LaChance surprised the 800 attendees of the Columbus Association for the Performing Arts preview on March 30 at the Southern Theatre. LaChance, who performed 'Beautiful' and '(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,' is expected to play the title role in BEAUTIFUL: THE CAROLE KING MUSICAL when the national tour has a six-day stopover in June, 2017 in Columbus.

The five-show season boasts four productions never before seen in Columbus including Tony® Award-winning Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella, Disney's The Little Mermaid, The Bodyguard, and the Tony® and Grammy® Award-winning Beautiful - The Carole King Musical. The 2016-17 lineup also includes a brand new, Tony® Award-winning production of Roundabout Theatre Company's Cabaret.

CSO to Perform Second Half of FESTIVAL: VIENNA 1900 with 'MOZART & SCHUBERT,' 4/22-23

In the second half of the CSO's Festival: Vienna 1900, CSO Music Director Rossen Milanov will conduct the Mozart & Schubert program featuring guest pianist Stewart Goodyear. In homage to Franz Schubert, the great pianist and composer Franz Liszt took Schubert's piano solo and transcribed it for piano and orchestra. The resulting Wanderer Fantasy is a dynamic and colorful work combining the talents of these two musical giants. Mozart's final and most masterful symphony anchors this absorbing and intriguing program.

Inspired by the seasons and topographies, George Winston's concerts feature a variety of styles including melodic folk piano, New Orleans R&B piano, and stride piano. This concert will feature Winston's 'Winter Show,' which will include melodic fall and winter type songs, some of Vince Guaraldi's Peanuts pieces, works inspired by the New Orleans piano and stride piano traditions, and songs from his upcoming album, Spring Carousel - A Cancer Research Benefit, scheduled for release in 2016.

In this first installment of the CSO's Festival: Vienna 1900, five-time Grammy Award-winning soprano Dawn Upshaw will demonstrate her unsurpassed versatility with songs created especially for her by Argentinian master composer, Grammy Award winner, and Musical America's Composer of the Year, Osvaldo Golijov. Upshaw will also perform the role of a young angel praising the delights of heaven in the radiant finale of Mahler's sweetest symphony. Led by CSO Music Director Rossen Milanov, the full program will include Strauss' Voices of Spring Waltzes, Golijov's Three Songs for Soprano and Orchestra, and Mahler's Symphony No. 4.

In many ways, the Ohio State Department of Theatre's latest production, "Stupid F---ing Bird," resembles the stage on which it is presented - an intimate performance space bordered by jagged-edged support beams, backed by planks of overlapping wooden boards and strewn with overturned paint buckets, plastic sheeting and stacked chairs. Indeed, this "lovingly deconstructed" version of Anton Chekhov's "The Seagull" has the feeling of a work in progress, like something built right before one's very eyes.
