BWW Review: LEADING LADIES at Keystone Theatrics
by Andrea Stephenson - March 01, 2020
'Actors - they lie for a living! That's their profession,' announces the priggish Reverend Duncan Wooley in Ken Ludwig's Pennsylvania-based comedy farce Leading Ladies. The actors in Keystone Theatrics at the Allenberry Resort clearly enjoyed playing that joke to the hilt in the play's two-week run, which ended March 1st.

off the WALL Presents the Rolling World Premiere of HOARD
by BWW News Desk - February 28, 2020
Starring off the WALL productions' Executive Artistic Director Virginia Wall Gruenert and Associate Artistic Director Erika Cuenca, local playwright Lissa Brennan has crafted a story written precisely for these two actresses. This play is not for the faint of heart; Brennan has done her research. Both Viv and Claire have emotional skeletons in their closets, though some are more visible than others. Viv's 'things' in her house serve to protect her just as the 'walls' in Claire's heart. Each woman is wounded, guarding her pain, neither wishing to reveal it until it is unwillingly pried out of her fingers. Brennan skillfully unravels the story of these two strangers with wit, compassion and venom.
Clark Nicholson of AN ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE at Gamut Theatre Group
by Andrea Stephenson - February 26, 2020
Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen's 1882 work An Enemy of the People was adapted by Arthur Miller, opening at the Broadhurst Theatre in 1950. Originally written in response to Ibsen's challenging of the hypocrisy of morality in the 19th century exemplified in his play Ghosts, An Enemy of the People explores the complicated and murky themes of power, truth, and morality. In their production of An Enemy of the People, Gamut Theatre Group will delve into these themes and more. You can catch this production February 29-March 15. Clark Nicholson, who plays the role of Dr. Stockman, took a few moments to give our readers a sneak peek into Gamut's upcoming production of An Enemy of the People.

BWW Review: ARSENIC AND OLD LACE at Upstart Arts
by Andrea Stephenson - February 24, 2020
Joseph Kesselring's Arsenic and Old Lace has long been a staple of high school and community theaters ever since playing on Broadway for four straight years from 1941-1944. But for director Michelle Denise Norton of Upstart Arts in York, Arsenic and Old Lace is what passes for a 'new' play. That's because for 20 years, the theater group of which she is the self-described 'creative engine' has been bringing Shakespeare to the York public in parks and on bridges and streets and wherever it's a good idea to bring live theater; namely, everywhere.

BWW Review: GRUMPY OLD MEN at Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre
by Rich Mehrenberg - February 20, 2020
One of the Act 1 numbers in Grumpy Old Men the Musical is titled, 'I Like The Way Things Are'. The lyrics deal with a dislike for change and a strong appreciation for 'the good old days'. This message could also extend to the musical itself. The show is based on the very funny and very popular 1993 movie of the same name starring Jack Lemmon, Walter Matthau, and Ann-Margret. It begs the question, why mess with success?

BWW Review: THE MOUNTAINTOP at Susquehanna Stage
by Rich Mehrenberg - February 18, 2020
Surprise! Surprise! Any production based on the life of Martin Luther King is bound to be deep, thought provoking, and moving. The Mountaintop by Katori Hall was no exception. Adding to the drama and emotion, however, was the unexpected humor in Hall's dialogue. This production had the audience bursting with laughter and tears.
