Geva Presents THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY OF STEVE JOBS, 1/24-2/10

Geva Theatre Center's 2013 Fielding Nextstage Season kicks off with The Agony and the Ecstasy of Steve Jobs, written by Mike Daisey. Directed by Mark Cuddy and performed by Remi Sandri, the production begins performances on January 24 and runs in the Fielding Nextstage through February 10.

America's most mysterious technology icon becomes the hilarious obsession of an Apple products geek who begins asking questions about how they are made. Geva favorite Remi Sandri stars in this story of pride and industrial design that follows the manufacturing trail all the way to China and back. A "must-see" for all consumers of modern technology.

Mike Daisey has been called "the master storyteller" and "one of the finest solo performers of his generation" by The New York Times for his groundbreaking monologues which weave together autobiography, gonzo journalism, and unscripted performance to tell hilarious and heartbreaking stories that cut to the bone, exposing secret histories and unexpected connections. The Agony and the Ecstasy of Steve Jobs was recognized as one of the year's best theatre pieces by The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Seattle Times, Seattle Weekly, San Jose Mercury News and The San Francisco Bay Guardian. It has seen more than forty productions around the world and has been translated into six languages. The first Chinese production opened in Beijing in 2011 and toured to Hong Kong and Shenzhen in 2012. Since his first monologue in 1997, Mr. Daisey has created over fifteen monologues, including The Last Cargo Cult, How Theater Failed America, the twenty-four-hour feat All the Hours in the Day, All Stories Are Fiction, the four-part epic Great Men of Genius, and 21 Dog Years. Other titles include If You See Something Say Something, Barring the Unforeseen, Invincible Summer, Monopoly!, Tongues Will Wag, I Miss the Cold War, and Teching in India.

Remi Sandri is a familiar face to Geva patrons. Most recently he appeared as the Ghost of Jacob Marley in A Christmas Carol. Other Geva credits include My Fair Lady, Twelve Angry Men, The Importance of Being Earnest, House and Garden, A Chorus Line, Camelot, 1776 and A Christmas Story. TV Credits include "Law and Order," "Conviction" and "Deadline."

The Agony and the Ecstasy of Steve Jobs is directed by Mark Cuddy. The creative team includes Matthew Reinert (Scenery and Lighting) and Dan Roach (Sound and Projections).
