Made Here Market to Launch This Summer

Made Here, a project by Hennepin Theatre Trust that activates the downtown Minneapolis Cultural District with initiatives featuring Minnesota art, is piloting a summer Made Here Market. The Market will be located in Loring Corners alley (1612 Harmon Place, Mpls. 55403) between Hennepin Avenue and Harmon Place in downtown Minneapolis. It is hosted in collaboration with The Third Bird restaurant as part of their Loring Alley Rally, a larger community festival offering free live music and DJs as well as locally emphasized food and beverages for purchase.

Running rain or shine 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., July 19-August 30 on seven consecutive Sundays, (July 19, 26 and August 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, 2015), the Made Here Market will feature local artisans displaying and selling Minnesota-made handicrafts and art. Up to 35 eclectic vendors, selected from a broad open call, will participate each Sunday. The Market will stretch from the parking lot to an adjacent indoor event center. The Third Bird is also hosting a pop-up art gallery.

Multiple live acts will perform outdoors in the alley each Sunday with additional entertainment inside the event center. The varied lineup of musicians and performers will include Aby Wolf, Al Church, Blair, LOTT, Tony's Ska Jam, Ethio Jazz, Bookhouse Trio, Twinkie Jiggles Broken Orchestra, McNasty Brass Band, Picnic Operetta, White Night, Gabriel Douglas, Tasha Baron, Liz Draper and Chris Hepola; The Lakers, The Neighborhood Trio, Black Widows, Body Cartography and Grant Hart.

Made Here launched in 2013 with visual displays in vacant storefront windows and commercial spaces. Currently, the Intersections: Made Here series of window showcases can be seen in downtown Minneapolis. Today, Made Here infuses a variety of public spaces with art and art-inspired experiences from pop-up parks, also known as Parklots, to live performances and rotating exhibitions to fence wraps around construction sites.

Among the newest Made Here project highlights are an indoor pedestrian gallery of six artists' work in the newly renovated Mayo Clinic Square and a Mortenson Fence Wrap with a graphic design "wrapping" the chain link fence surrounding a new hotel development project.

A grant from the City of Minneapolis - Great Streets program, which fosters economic development in specific areas of the city, supports the Market and additional Made Here activities that will take place this fall and winter. Those activities will include a "pop-up" dance and multi-disciplinary performance festival, as well as workshops for downtown property owners who have helped make Made Here a success.
