Washington National Opera to Close Out Season with THE RING OF THE NIBELUNG, 4/30

Washington National Opera (WNO) concludes its landmark 60th anniversary season with its first complete presentation of Richard Wagner's four-part The Ring of the Nibelung, perhaps the most challenging production to mount in all of opera. Three cycles of Wagner's epic will be presented from April 30 to May 22, 2016 in the Kennedy Center Opera House. These performances will be the first time the company has presented The Ring in complete cycles in its history, and they are the only complete cycles to be presented in North America in 2016. Conceived and directed by WNO Artistic Director Francesca Zambello and with the WNO Orchestra led by WNO Music Director Philippe Auguin, the production brings together an internationally renowned cast, including British soprano Catherine Foster (Brünnhilde, Cycles I & II), Swedish soprano Nina Stemme (Brünnhilde, Cycle III), American tenor Daniel Brenna (Siegfried), American bass-baritone Alan Held (Wotan/The Wanderer), and many other of today's great Wagnerian singers.

SF Opera Lab presents an exuberant new production of composer Ana Sokolovic's 'compelling and beautifully transparent' (Opera News) chamber opera, SVADBA-WEDDING, conducted by Dáirine Ní Mheadhra and directed by Michael Cavanagh. The cast features Jacqueline Woodley (as the bride, Milica), Liesbeth Devos (Danica), Laura Albino (Lena), Pauline Sikirdji (Zora), Andrea Ludwig (Nada) and Krisztina Szabó (Ljubica). The seven performances run April 2 through 10, 2016, and audiences are invited to a complimentary post-performance after-party with champagne and wedding cake. The Apollo Theater and Opera Philadelphia announced today that Charlie Parker's YARDBIRD, composed by Daniel Schnyder with a libretto by Bridgette A. Wimberly, will have its New York premiere in a co-production between the two institutions, April 1 and 3, 2016.  The engagement marks the first time opera will be performed on the Apollo Theater stage, and the first time Opera Philadelphia will produce in New York. The opera will also be recorded for broadcast in November 2016 on New York City's classical music station 105.9 WQXR, at wqxr.org, and distributed nationally by the WFMT Radio Network.

Odyssey Opera presents WHEN IN ROME, its third annual opera festival comprising fully staged productions of Christoph Willibald Gluck's Ezio and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Lucio Silla from June 3-12 at the Boston University Theatre. Ezio and Lucio Silla are both composed in the grand tradition of opera seria, with plots revolving around the timeless themes of honor, betrayal, and passion revealed in soul-baring arias. Following its sold-out co-production with SFJAZZ of Terence Blanchard's Champion, Opera Parallèle will conclude  its 2015-2016 season with an innovative new production of the late Peter Maxwell Davies' brooding three-singer, six-character tour-de-force The Lighthouse, based on the true story of mysterious disappearances off the Hebrides islands in 1900. Ms. Sterrenberg, who made her professional debut in the role in June's World Premiere in Philadelphia, has withdrawn from the New York production for personal reasons.

Opera Theatre of the Rockies to Present COSI FAN TUTTE

Colorado Springs audiences are in for a delicious musical adventure on April 9 & 10 when Opera Theatre of the Rockies and the Chamber Orchestra of the Springs team up to present Mozart's delightful opera buffa Così fan tutte. Two churches will host the performances, which will be fully-staged, costumed, and true to the 18th century as originally set by Mozart. The opera will be performed in the original Italian, with supertitles. The performances will be at First Christian Church (16 E.
