Lower Manhattan's Shakespeare Downtown presents eight free performances of George Bernard Shaw's masterpiece, 'Saint Joan,' from June 16-26, 2022 inside the historic walls of Castle Clinton National Monument at The Battery. This timely play, directed by Geoffrey Horne, is based on historical records of the 1431 trial of French military icon and religious martyr Joan of Arc.

Francesca Zambello, the artistic and general director of the Glimmerglass Festival, introduces creators and excerpts from the upcoming 2022 festival, which includes a record number of new works: Composer Damien Geter and librettist Lila Palmer’s Holy Ground begins in a dystopian version of the present, in which the messiah has not yet appeared; can a rookie angel persuade a modern girl to take on the task, staving off the apocalypse? 

Artistic Director Tony Prince and Producing Director Richard McGrew announce that The Liminal Playhouse is going out with a bang with its nineteenth Louisville premiere and final production: “Edward Gant’s Amazing Feats of Loneliness” by Anthony Neilson opening May 26. Written in 2008 but set in 1881, this play is the final performance of a Victorian theatre troupe led by an opium addict. An odd combination of melodrama, comedy, and fairy tale, it is a strange, and at times grotesque, exploration of loneliness, love, memory, the ephemeral nature of life and of theatre itself.

On Saturday, May 14, 2022, Netflix hosted a Global Red Carpet and Premiere Screening event in celebration of “STRANGER THINGS 4” at Netflix Studios in Brooklyn, New York. The screening opened with remarks by: Ted Sarandos and Bela Bajaria of Netflix, followed by Shawn Levy and Matt & Ross Duffer. Afterward, the cast, creators and guests celebrated the series’ premiere at Netflix Studios Brooklyn, closing out the night.

The world debut of Emmy award winner Jacki Thrapp's highly-anticipated new show 'Lighthouse: An Immersive Drinking Musical' has announced the first round of cast members for its limited run at the 2022 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The new Irish-American musical full of original catchy drinking songs and unforgettable step dancing numbers opens in Scotland this August.

Murder By Death have shared the first single off of their upcoming album. 'Never Be' is out today ahead of their album, 'Spell/Bound,' which will be out on July 29th. Last month Murder by Death announced the Kickstarter campaign for their forthcoming album Spell/Bound which is being released on July 29. Today they share the first single off the LP, “Never Be” and the band notes, “'Never Be' is a cinematic tell-off song that simmers with a dark and lush energy. Cello and violin weave around a hypnotic finger-picked acoustic in an arrangement that hints at Serge Gainsbourg or Elliott Smith.”

Lauren Monroe - singer, songwriter, and healing artist - announces her third album, Messages from Aphrodite, with the release of the new single, “If You Want.” Co-produced by Monroe with the renowned Jim Scott, “If You Want” features a guest performance from the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Rick Allen, drummer of Def Leppard, and Monroe’s husband and frequent collaborator.

David Knudson officially releases his new LP The Only Thing You Have to Change is Everything  out today via Platoon/Seawall. The 10-track LP traverses Knudson’s dizzying riffage and energized instrumentation while excising the full-band format in favor of intricately layered guitar, bold programmed beats. Along with the album’s release, Knudson is also sharing a new video for the album’s intro track “Varv,” which finds Knudson collaborating with director Adam CK Vollick. The bright, warped visuals match the intense instrumental track reflecting Knudson’s journey towards newfound sobriety. 

Today, the internationally celebrated, Raleigh-based alternative band The Connells  released an acoustic EP, reinterpreting four tracks from their acclaimed album Steadman’s Wake. The album, which was released in September to wide praise, marked the end of a 20-year recording hiatus for the band. Recorded at the bands practice space by long time live engineer Tim Harper (Alejandro Escovedo, Whiskeytown, Queen Sarah Saturday), the Steadman’s Wake Acoustic EP showcases the softer sound in which guitarist and vocalist Mike Connell wrote the songs while still highlighting the immediacy of songs like 'Steadman's Wake' and 'Song For Duncan.'

The nominations for the 66th Annual Drama Desk Awards will be announced by actor, author, civil rights activist and influencer, George Takei, on Monday, May 16, with the top four categories announced live on Spectrum News NY1 at 4 p.m. ET.  Takei will join NY1 anchor Ruschell Boone and “On Stage” host Frank DiLella to announce the nominations for Outstanding Musical, Outstanding Play, Outstanding Revival of a Musical and Outstanding Revival of a Play. Last night, Saturday, May 14th at 8pm, Felix Cavaliere (The Rascals) and Micky Dolenz (The Monkees) teamed up for a joint concert, 'The Legends Live!' Cavaliere is a member of Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Songwriter Hall of Fame, Vocal Group Hall of Fame, Grammy Hall of Fame and Musicians Hall of Fame. He has three songs that were Number 1 hits, and many others within the top fifty. Micky Dolenz has won two Emmys. With The Monkees, he has earned four Grammy nominations and released many songs that were in the top fifty on the charts.  

The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) honoured artists and industry leaders at the helm of Canada’s music scene tonight at the 2022 JUNO Opening Night Awards Presented by Ontario Creates, which took place at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. Co-hosted by Angeline Tetteh-Wayoe (CBC Music’s The Block) and Ann Pornel (The Great Canadian Baking Show), the renowned industry event saw five show-stopping performances and the presentation of 41 JUNO Awards, along with The Walt Grealis Special Achievement Award, the Humanitarian Award Presented by Music Canada and the MusiCounts Inspired Minds Ambassador Award Presented by Canadian Scholarship Trust Foundation.

Since her captivating debut in 2009, jazz vocalist Sylvia Brooks has displayed a gift for inhabiting different personas, with a subspecialty in film- noir inspired femmes fatale. Her evocative lyrics and emotionally direct delivery imbue the music with hard-won authenticity. Flutist, spoken word artist, and performer Andrea Brachfeld is set to release a new album inspired by giving back to children, Evolution, with Insight, which includes musicians Bill O'Connell and Harvie S, and Jason Tiemann. The release is set for May 20th. A portion of the album's proceeds will be donated to a designated children's organization.

NOONTIME CONCERTS, which provides free live musical performances at Old St. Mary's Cathedral (660 California St., San Francisco) on Tuesdays at lunchtime (12:30 pm), has returned to presenting monthly live concerts, after the pandemic forced live concerts to be discontinued. This is an unprecedented collaboration in theatre. New Professional Theatre and Blackberry Productions have partnered with the New York Police Department (NYPD) on the COPP Project. Commonalities, Opposites, Partners, Peace (COPP) is a project that will demonstrate what a powerful tool theatre can play in healing and transforming disparate communities. The play has been developed through personal interviews and facilitated workshops with youth and police officers.

The Ministry of Culture of the Government of Mexico and the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (Inbal), through the National Coordination of Literature (CNL), together with the Government of the state of Guerrero and its Ministry of Culture, delivered this Saturday the Juan Ruiz de Alarcón 2022 National Playwright Award to the actress, playwright and activist Perla de la Rosa, in recognition of her uninterrupted cultural work for more than four decades.

 Never more timely, Trans Entertainment Guild presents a unique creative team and cast, in a concert reading of “The Civility of Albert Cashier” at The Players Theatre, 115 MacDougal Street, NYC, now through June 5th, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m., and on Sundays at 2 p.m.  Albert D. J. Cashier is a brave and heroic soldier in the Civil War. 

Keith Banks Jr. announces the return of Becoming Grandma Kat as part of The Orlando Fringe's International Theater at The Renaissance Theatre (Teal Venue). Live, in-person performances will be May 21st- May 22nd & May 27th-May 28th. By following the story of a rising social media influencer whom was involved in pyramid scheme. As a result, he is placed in the Witness Protection Program (WITSEC) after witnessing a crime, this hilarious spoof will have audiences falling in love with Grandma Kat again and again.

The Collaborative School of the Arts at Proctors congratulates the winners of this year’s High School Musical Theatre Awards in partnership with The Broadway League and presented by the Times Union. View all the nominees and winners from the greater Capital Region of New York State.

While many theatre organizations are completing their 2021-2022 seasons, the Jennie T. Anderson Theatre's third year of productions is just getting started. Their five-concert Overture Series runs from January to December. Consisting of streaming and in-person concerts, they've chosen to release their titles one show at a time.

According to WhatsOnStage, the full lineup for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee has been announced. The 90 minute celebration is set to air tonight at 8pm via ITV. Stage and screen performers are set to take the stage, set on Windsor Castle grounds. Keala Settle from film's 'The Greatest Showman' and Broadway's Waitress will perform 'Sing' by Andrew Lloyd Weber and Gary Barlow. Lin-Manuel Miranda and Andrew Lloyd Weber have been collaborating on a special project that has not yet been revealed. Read more about the project here. 

According to The Guardian, the late actor Alan Rickman's twenty seven diaries are set to be published in one book. Canongate publishing now has the rights, and the work is set to be published in the fall of this year. The book, now titled 'The Diaries of Alan Rickman' encompasses over twenty five years of the actor's personal writings, including discussions about his career and personal life. The entries began in the first half of the 1990s and continued until his death in 2016. Rickman began the diaries with the intention that they would be published one day. 

No matter how much you know about the Titanic disaster, the musical grounds the story, humanizes it, and you leave the theatre an emotional wreck.

Even though they are not related, there must be a common music DNA molecule that exists in George Gershwin, Leonard Bernstein, and Billy Joel, that was also passed on to Jason Robert Brown. His performance last night at Feinstein’s/54 Below encompassed some of the creative talents of all of those musical giants. Jason Robert Brown, the composer, the arranger,  the lyricist, the pianist, and the singer, was on the stage of Feinstein’s/54 Below with nine (yes, nine) great musicians, plus vocalists Anastasia Talley and Cheeyang Ng.
