Star-studded Faculty & Guest Showcase on Saturday, August 5 at The Arts  at Armory in Somerville, MA.

Somerville, MA. —  The highly-anticipated Second Annual Boston Tap Party (BTP), the annual celebration of the art of tap, brings top tap artists from across the country to Greater Boston, teaching youth classes and capping the event with a “Faculty Showcase” performance (Saturday, August 5 at The Arts at Armory in  Somerville). Tickets are $37.50. Ticket link here

This year’s faculty includes Ian BergSydney Burtis, Ryan P. CaseyThelma GoldbergLuke Hickey, Khalid Hill, Jason Janas, Kelly KaletaDemi RemickAaron Tolson, and Dianne Walker. Special consultants for BTP are Jai Underhill, Julia Boynton (Beantown Tap Festival founder), and Dianne “Lady Di” Walker.

“The Boston Tap Party supports passionate, exciting musicians and dancers engaging in artistic dialogue between eras, genres, and art forms, where dancers, audiences, and teachers of the art form get the chance to really celebrate tap,” says Producer/Director Deborah Mason Dudley. “It’s all about having a collaborative summer tap weekend with festivities all in Somerville this year. It’s a frenzied pace, and it’s so much fun.”

The move of the Showcase to The Arts at the Armory allows the show to be staged more like a nightclub cabaret, capturing the sense and style of jazz clubs in their heyday, with guest artists performing and student participants joining to dance together to Paul Arslanian’s live band. “I want attendees and students at BTP to celebrate while experiencing and sharing the music and history, spirit and culture of Tap Dance in our community,” says Mason Dudley.

“Collaborating with some of Boston’s best jazz musicians and tap dancers keeps jazz and tap dance alive and growing in our city, and pays further tribute to the artistic history of Somerville,” adds Mason Dudley.  “The city has hosted some of the area’s best jazz musicians, from Johnny D’s, Joe’s Jazz and blues fest, to street performers and musicians, who have all added to the vibrancy of the community.”

BTP provides the opportunity for all ages and abilities to participate in tap workshops with both legends and rising stars during the four-day festival. The BTP culminates in a jam-packed performance “Faculty Showcase,” at The Arts at Armory in Somerville, featuring faculty and students in cabaret-style performances. Following the showcase, DMPAC will host a Tap Jam with a live band. $ 10 donation at the door.
