Poets' Theatre to Present Dario Fo's MISTERO BUFFALO, Today

The Poets' Theatre is proud to announce its upcoming production of Nobel Laureate Dario's Fo comic masterpiece "Mistero Buffo" at Suffolk University's Modern Theatre from March 18th to 26th, 2016, as part of a festival celebrating Fo's 90th birthday.  The production features acclaimed actors Remo Airaldi, Benjamin Evett, and Debra Wise, and is directed by Bob Scanlan. The new American translation is by Bob Scanlan and Walter Valeri.

In 1916, Woodrow Wilson was President and Europe was in the thick of World War I.  The State of Montana elected the first woman representative in Congress and the U.S. National Park Service was created by an act of Congress.  Charlie Chaplin, Douglas Fairbanks, and Mae Marsh were some of the entertainment stars of the day, appearing on marquees across the country.  In the midst of the silent film era, the Regent Theatre first opened its doors on April 24, 1916. A state of the art theater at the time, it was said "There is no city or town that can boast of a more beautiful motion picture theatre."

Flat Earth Theatre opens their tenth anniversary season with the East Coast premier of Gina Young's cheeky exploration of growing up queer in the 90s. An ensemble cast of seven women and four men portray girls and boys of varying ages and personality types, but you will recognize all of these kids and may see yourself among them. Through a series of vignettes, dances, and songs, Young captures the awkwardness and anxiety of sexual awakening and feeling "different," but would get more bang for the buck with some judicious editing.

Courtney Stewart Wins MA 2016 Poetry Out Loud Champion for Third Time

Springfield Central High School senior Courtney Stewart was named Massachusetts's 2016 Poetry Out Loud Champion Sunday at Boston's Old South Meeting House. He bested 24 other finalists to earn the top honor. Stewart is the first contestant in Massachusetts to win the title three times. First runner-up was Meloee Nazaire, a senior from Revere High School, and second runner-up was Ben Cohen, a sophomore from Needham High School. This is Ben's second year placing in the top three in Massachusetts.
