Contemporary movies and classical music make excellent partners. Out of necessity, though, music in soundtracks is cut into excerpts and presented in conjunction with other things. On March 7 and 8, Giocosa Chamber Music presents three string quartets used in movies in their entirety and without distractions! Artists: Heather Goodchild Wade, violin, Jesse Holstein, violin, Danielle Farina, viola, Elizabeth Schultze, cello Time: 15:00 - 17:00
Mozart’s anomalous String Quartet #19 (Dissonance) opens the program. This quartet is often used in films but is rarely credited in soundtracks. The opposite is the case with Philip Glass’ String Quartet #3 (Mishima), which was composed specifically for Paul Schrader's 1985 film "Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters" and appears in the film its entirety. Ravel’s String Quartet, a pillar of the quartet repertoire, is a four-movement work. The second movement is featured prominently in Wes Anderson’s "The Royal Tenenbaums".
Performances take place on Saturday March 7 at 3 pm at Thacher Hall in Yarmouth Port, and on Sunday March 8 at 3 pm at the First Congregational Church of Chatham. For tickets and the season’s complete lineup, visit giocosachambermusic.com.
