Actors' Shakespeare Project's 2016-17 Season to Feature THE TEMPEST, HAMLET & More

Actors' Shakespeare Project leadership team Allyn Burrows, Artistic Director, Kimberly Dawson, Interim Executive Producer and Mara Sidmore, Director of Education announce today the four plays, dates and directors that will comprise the lineup for the company's 13th season. The 2016 - 17 season begins with the world's most famous tragedy HAMLET by William Shakespeare (October 5 - November 6, 2016), directed by Doug Lockwood; next up will be director Eric Tucker's new vision of the fantastical world of THE TEMPEST by William Shakespeare (December 15, 2016 - January 22, 2017); on to the troubled reign of EDWARD II by Christopher Marlowe, directed by David Gammons (February 22 - March 19, 2017) and finally Spring brings the pastoral comedy A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM by William Shakespeare. directed by Patrick Swanson (April 19 - May 21, 2017).

HAMLET by William Shakespeare

October 5 - November 6, 2016 (Press opening October 8, 2016, at 8 pm)
Shakespeare's most iconic work, "Hamlet" explodes with big ideas but at the center is a story of loyalty, love, betrayal, murder and madness. Hamlet's father is dead, and Denmark has crowned Hamlet's uncle the new king. Consumed by grief, Hamlet struggles to exact revenge, with devastating consequences.

THE TEMPEST by William Shakespeare

December 15, 2016 - January 22, 2017 (Press opening December 17, 2016, at 8 pm)
In Shakespeare's fantastical thriller the magician Prospero orchestrates spirits, monsters, a grief-stricken king, a wise old counselor, two treacherous brothers and a storm at sea into a fantastical conspiracy bringing banishment, sorcery, and shipwreck into the lives of two hapless lovers to stir and seal their fate.

February 22 - March 19, 2017 (Press opening February 25, 2017, at 8 pm)
The reign of Edward II, King of England, is troubled from the start when he brings his male lover, hated by the nobles, out of exile.

A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM by William Shakespeare
Directed by Patrick Swanson
April 19 - May 21, 2017 (Press opening April 22, 2017, at 8 pm)
One of Shakespeare's most popular plays, A Midsummer Night's Dream follows the journey of four young lovers as they find their way through the forest and to each other. But as Lysander says "the course of true love never did run smooth." Full of madcap chases and mistaken identities, A Midsummer Night's Dream, is an exploration of the mystery and madness of love.
