Previews begin March 2, ahead of a March 19 opening.

From Telecharge:

“Bob Fosse’s Dancin’ is Fosse’s full-throated, full-bodied celebration of the art form he loved and perfected … and then changed forever.

Utterly reimagined for the 21st century by director Wayne Cilento- who starred in the original Broadway production- this Dancin’ brims with a level of warmth, emotion, and color rarely seen in modern interpretations of Fosse’s influential style, and features some of his most inventive and seldom performed choreography. With New York’s hottest cast performing 120-minutes of wall-to-wall dance, Dancin’ delivers the quintessential Broadway experience for Fosse fans and first-timers alike. You think you’ve seen dancing, but you’ve never seen Dancin’ like this.”

It was expected to transfer in the Spring. I just hope it's only a limited run. The original was an artistic masterpiece, but Cilento has apparently butchered this revival. After the horrible reviews it got in San Diego, I'm surprised this is still moving forward.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

Interesting. I had heard The Notebook was going to take the Music Box after Gabriel Byrne.

I wonder how many cast members from the Old Globe production will make the transfer. Also, Darryl Archibald MD'ed that production; curious who the new one will be because he's currently conducting Some Like It Hot.

Oh look, a bibu!

I feel like The Notebook is MUCH more likely to snag a theater this season than this.

Shubert produced the original production and it was an important hit for the Org. So that + relationships might be a factor; its money might have been in place longer than Notebook too.

Does this mean Prima Facie is no longer in talks for the Music Box? Or was that never actually happening?

Not really how it works. Shuberts would get a cut of licensing regardless as they produced the original and will get royalties for doing so in perpetuity for all eligible mounted commercial productions. Unless the ink was dry on a theater lease, nothing has been set in stone and looking at the reviews for both productions, it's clear which has legs and which doesn't.

What a waste of a house if that's what's going there. Where do they think the market is for this?

I am intimately aware of how Theatre deals work. Merely suggesting that there may be a sentimental aspect to the Shuberts giving Joey Parnes a theatre for this.

We also don’t know what the theatre situation is for NOTEBOOK — they could very well have a Shubert house promised to them for spring.

Given this was originally supposed to happen in August of 2011, I will not believe this is happening until the curtain actually goes up at the first preview.

Snooze. Too many back-ordered musicals coming this season.

Considering nearly EVERY show takes years of development, I have a hard time viewing any musical as back-ordered. And, you know...some things delayed by a pandemic.

I saw the original, It was really something! I especially remember Ann Reinking, beautiful and graceful.

Another of my favorites from back then was Kelly Bishop in A Chorus Line.  I saw her in the show twice.  I was so happy when I realized it was her, many years later as the grandmother in The Gilmore Girls.

I would imagine this keeps most of the cast from the production in San Diego.  The program with cast bios is still up on the Old Globe site.  I don't see any stars now, but if it is very good it could make these people stars.

As someone who saw the original 1978 Broadway production over a handful of times as well as the various cast changes (including the national tour), this “revival” has zero semblance to Bob Fosse’s original.  I saw this in San Diego and was utterly disgusted.  It’s basically a low-budget cruise ship dance revue.  Those expecting a full fledged recreation of DANCIN’ will be disappointed.

I'm sure this has been asked / answered elsewhere, but why didn't they just recreate Bob Fosse's production?

I wonder if Nicole Fosse signed off on this getting recreated? Not sure if she did when Cilento didn't use the Fosse choreo for the Applegate-lead Sweet Charity.

And she was in last season of Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and will be again this season - assuming it ever drops!

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Also Bunheads. She’ll basically do anything for Amy Sherman-Palladino.

Considering that the link to the Old Globe production listed above, from just last night, clearly credits the full billing as “Original Broadway production created, directed, and choreographed by Bob Fosse, Choreography by Bob Fosse, Direction by Wayne Cilento, Produced in cooperation with Nicole Fosse” … either people are too lazy to look it up or have very verrry short memories, but regardless I’m flabbergasted that people think it has nothing to do with Bob Fosse’s original choreography or, even less believably, that Nicole Fosse might not have even authorized or “signed off” on this production.
