Let’s hope THIS one happens. The 2011 Broadway revival helmed by Graciela Daniele and supervised by Nicole Fosse was cancelled “due to scheduling conflicts.” That was going into Studio 54.

Also, hopefully they recreate the original numbers AS they were in the original 1978 Broadway production. The chosen DANCIN’ numbers “recreated” in 1999’s FOSSE revue were slightly modified from their original versions.

Yes, hope this goes to plan as well!

I remember I was all excited when this was announced to play a pre Broadway engagement in Toronto in 2008/2009.

I legit had to think about if today was April Fools Day or if I was about to get Rick-rolled. I remember when Dancin' was "coming next season" for like 7 consecutive seasons lol. I hope this one happens!

Curious if they’ll change any of the music (like the Neil Diamond music)

Don't feel good about having Wayne Cilento at the helm. His Sweet Charity revival was horrendous.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

Saw the original and I’m very excited about this!
I’m going to try and be optimistic about Wayne Cilento taking the reigns

Walter Bobbie directed that 2005 Broadway revival.  Cilento was the choreographer.  It was a re-interpretation revival so it wasn’t a recreation of Bob Fosse’s original (Neil Simon even wrote a new ending).  Cilento did his own original choreography which still paid homage to Bob Fosse original.

DANCIN’ was a Bob Fosse dance show/revue therefore Cilento will be recreating Bob Fosse’s work.  Cilento was part of the original Broadway cast so he was part of the original production’s creation.

A technicality, but Cilento has been announced as director, not director/choreographer –– and the press release does not specify recreation anywhere. In the past, the Fosse estate has been reluctant for recreation (which is why the CHICAGO and PIPPIN revivals were done "in the style of Bob Fosse DANCIN' To Receive First Broadway Revival. I would assume this production will have a mix of both recreation and "in the style of," especially if they try to modernize some of the musical selections.

My fear is that this could feel like a museum piece, but Cilento's statement about viewing it through a modern lens does make me optimistic, even if it's just PR speak.

Let's also not hold our breath that this is actually happening. Remember, this is being produced by Joey Parnes, whose Broadway revivals of Crazy for You and Rags and Into the Woods never happened, and who very publicly had trouble raising the money for Gents Guide and Throw Baby From The Train.

This announcement has been revived more times than Gypsy. Hopefully it'll actually come to pass this time.

There is some singing, but essentially it is a dance revue. Here is the program (separated into three posts) from the original Broadway production, which I assume will be the same:Dancin' - April 1978

This production lists "text consultant and additional material by Kirsten Childs" so perhaps there will be a bit of spoken word and restructuring?

Darryl Archibald is MD’ing this revival… I wonder if this will affect his availability for Some Like It Hot.

I will believe DANCIN' is happening on Broadway when I see an announcement of a theatre. This producer does not have the best track record for following through on Broadway plans.

As for Darryl, open one then leave to open the other? Will all be a matter of how the Music Supervisors for each show want to handle it (Jim Abbott for Dancin, Mary Mitchell Campbell for Some Like It). Both shows have impressive music teams of qualified people.

Here's an example of one of the numbers. It's in b&w, but you still get the idea.

Which producer? Old Globe, Nicole Fosse, or Joey Parnes?

They all seem to be quality producers. I'm they're no Ken Davenport or Kickstarter

Joey Parnes has planned revivals of Crazy for You, Rags, and the Public's Into the Woods which have never happened for financial reasons, and he also (publicly) had a VERY hard time raising money for Gents Guide and Bright Star...one of those eventually paid off, one did not. And his two longtime deputies left him to start their own firm. So I cannot believe in good consciousness that any project he's attached to will actually happen until a theatre and opening date are announced. Prove us all wrong, Joey!
