Remy the ratatouille...you do realize Remy is a rat and ratatouille is food, right...?? This whole thing is absolutely bonkers. I can't believe it. Spongebob? Sure. I'll be open minded about that. They did a fantastic job. But RATATOUILLE??? No. No. Absolutely not. Am I the only one who is opposed and thinks this is ridiculous??

Opposed to a one-night-only concert to benefit the Actors Fund? Yeah, you're the only one.

That lyric is from the original song that sparked this whole thing, and that song - and by extension, that lyric - was very much meant to be a joke.  Calling him “the Ratatouille” is a play on mindless musical theatre lyrics that nonsensically shoehorn in the title of the show.

This jokey song snowballed into something people started taking more seriously.

(Trying to think a respectful way to say this) I really don’t mean to antagonize or be catty, but maybe calm down because it’s just a fun silly thing that doesn’t actually harm you?

Is this being done with Disney’s involvement or is it one of those unauthorized musical parodies?

I don’t think it’s being done with their involvement. I would imagine that a piecemeal sort of project like this would fall under fair use.

For me, the bigger question is: Is Ken Davenport involved? (Let’s hope not)

Greg Noble who produced Slave Play is producing this event...and I have to wonder how they are getting around Disney not being involved....

I have a feeling Disney has blessed this behind the scenes as a one-off fundraiser. I don't think a producer would risk pissing them off, and a Disney "star" (Milo Manheim) has participated, and the official Disney Parks TikTok also contributed a video to it.

They just released the creative team. It's being directed by Lucy Moss (co-creator of Six), music supervision is by Daniel Mertzlufft (made one of the first videos for the musical), produced by Jeremy O. Harris (who at this point seems like he just wants to throw his HBO money around like confetti), and will feature a 20-piece orchestra and a Broadway cast.

Any predictions for who's going to be actually performing in this thing? As I've said before, Andrew Barth Feldman was born to play Linguine.

Now that Disney is being more user-friendly with its approach to intellectual property, I hope we see a return of “Alien: The Play.” I don’t think I’ve ever seen full-on science fiction staged as sincerely AND successfully as that high school did it.

I don't think this is a sign that Disney is more open to letting others develop their IP. I think it's more a perfect storm of an industry shut down and a viral media moment that we are unlikely to see again.

André de Shields as Ego is PERFECT casting.  And also, can we talk about how wonderfully diverse this cast is?  So many people in this company, both on and off the stage, are BIPOC.  I'm really hoping this is a theme that continues when Broadway reopens.

We live in the weirdest timeline when one of the biggest theatrical events I'm looking forward to is a starstudded virtual performance of a crowd-sourced TikTok musical of Ratatouille.

While I agree that this is a perfect storm situation with Disney allowing this to go on, someone on Twitter pointed out that this might send a message to rights holders to be less precious with their IPs, and allow young writers to get the chance to create adaptations.

I am DEAD. Pun intended, this cast is delicious!! Ashley Park as Colette?! Andre Shields as Ego?! Andrew B. Feldman as Liguini?! Kevin Chamberlin as Gustea. Wayne Brady and Adam Levine as the dad and the brother are surreal. Mary Testa as Skinner also kills me. It took me three reads to find Skinner. The only person I’m unsure about is Tituss. Love him, but will he fit??

I will not be shocked if this concert actually stays as a full-time Broadway show.

You need to buy tickets for this as opposed to have the option to voluntarily donate? Pass.

It may be a cute idea but not with tickets that "start" at $5; whatever that means.

Holy cow . Scratching my head trying to figure out what your last sentence “means.” All I’m coming up with in regards to your entire post paints you in a negative light.

Way back in the pre-COVID days of yore, it was pretty much standard that you'd have to pay money to attend a benefit concert. How spoiled we've become! (I say this with some snark, but I'll admit I'm in the same boat - with all this free content out there, I often find myself scoffing at objectively modest ticket prices)

"It may be a cute idea but not with tickets that "start" at $5; whatever that means."

Pretty straightforward. It just means $5 is the minimum donation.

Sure, I may be spoiled. But most of the best online content from the Broadway community I've seen out there comes with an option to donate. With this one it was obvious they knew they could force the fans into purchasing.

I would've paid for the Sondheim birthday concert, but for this? It all started as a cute social media trend, no need to "sell tickets".

Anyhow, it's just my two cents. If everyone is buying tickets power to you.

It's an All-star cast. Let's see if Disney does anything with this afterwards.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

It's hilarious and very, very telling. Like, how cheap can a person be?

Jesus, it’s $5.

Hahahaha. Exactly.

You can donate anywhere from 5 to 100 dollars. All for the actors fund. What a bargain for THAT cast!

I haven't seen anyone on TikTok complaining about the price. In fact, many people are surprised that it's only $5, which is basically pocket change. It's the perfect price point to sell the highest number of tickets and raise a hefty amount for the Actors Fund. I was more than happy to spend it.
