I apologize if someone has already asked this question, but what do people think the spring of 2021 will look like for Broadway shows? Which ones will reopen and which news ones are most likely to open?

Nobody knows... this could be an interesting test of survival going forward. Frankly, I'm shocked very few shows have closed thus far. I believe plays are in the most danger as they do not usually generate as much appeal as musicals, though we could likely see more tuners getting the hook in the future. Virginia Woolf was scrapped due to scheduling conflicts (Metcalf), and it's not like Frozen and Beetlejuice were good musicals anyway. Entertaining to some, sure, but not among the top-tier shows on Broadway.
Besides from the long runners (wicked phantom Hamilton phantom Chicago Book of Mormon ) I’m going to say that we will be seeing company, moulin rouge, six. Seeing how the west end seems to be talking as long as the theatres are on track to be opening the next four months. It will definitely be difficult for many though to make a go even after opening. I could easily north country and Diana and ain’t too proud and Doubtfire all closing within months. And not even making it to April
I think Company, Six, and Mrs. Doubtfire will officially open. If the actors are available, I can see The Lehman Trilogy opening.
Of long runners, Wicked, Phantom, Chicago, The Lion King, and Aladdin will likely be back. Probably Moulin Rouge, Come From Away, and Evan Hansen.
I'll be interested to see what the non profits do. Will Roundabout still produce Birthday Candles and Caroline? Will LCT have Flying Over Sunset? Take Me Out at Second Stage? How I Learned to Drive at MTC? All promised those for the fall, but with fall reopenings looking less likely, will these shows get produced in the spring?
And I agree with Jordan...The West End will almost certainly be open before Broadway.
I'm curious if we've heard whether or not the theater owners are continuing to charge the producers rent? Other than that, what else contributes to whatever expenses they might be dealing with, production wise only.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
LCT will absolutely still do "Caroline" and I'm sure they'll do "Birthday Candles" as well, since Messing said she's committed to doing it. As for "Sunset", everything is just sitting there waiting for a first performance so I can't imagine they wouldn't move forward with it.
Slightly on topic. (Maybe) I was curious if anyone on here was in a Las Vegas production. If they had any insider news when the shows were coming back there.
I have tried to search online for a proper article or specific theatre website to find information about Broadway reopenings. I have never been to New York, and I was planning my trip to go see Broadway musicals this year. Obviously things have derailed, but any update? Does anyone know if they are going to open any shows for later this year? Or at least where I could potentially find information regarding the subject.

I would look to Playbill.com as well as Broadway World. They will post any updates as they are released from the theatre companies. You can additionally look at Broadway League and Actor's Equity as they will post updates in conjunction with official releases on other sites. Currently New York Ballet and Carnegie Hall have cancelled their performances until January 2021, and several West End productions have done the same. As much as I love Broadway, I am also thinking as are others on the board that January 2021 will likely be the new potential reopening date.
My suggestion is to look for potentially 2021 for your trip, as the current listing of shows will very likely change the longer the shutdown continues.

There is no update. No one knows when Broadway will reopen and any article or website that suggests otherwise is misleading you. We know that it will not be in 2020, and may well not be in Spring 2021 either. Beyond that, unfortunately, you'll need to be patient.
When Broadway reopens it will be national news, a huge story. But, Broadway won't be open this year, so I would plan your trip for next year, probably late Spring or early Summer to be on the safe side.
Okay, thank you guys for your input. I agree that in moments like these it is very important to be patient especially for the well-being of the most volatile to COVID. I just wanted to have an idea of what the whole situation is looking like right now. I will just plan for next year then.

I work for Cirque and there is no news about when shows are coming back. Right now they're focusing on recapitalizing but as of July 1st, all of the hotels except for one, where Cirque shows play will have re-opened. I don't expect the shows to be back anytime soon though.
If the current increase in COVID cases continues, or returns to New York thanks to protests or the minority of people flaunting precautions, I think guidelines for reopening theaters may be restrictive enough to be cost prohibitive for many theaters. 8 shows a week in live theater is much more expensive than a week of movie showings in a cinema, and the restrictions for that have been extreme (and necessary). Barring a vaccine, it would be the same for theatrical productions.
I keep getting less and less confident about B'way reopening next spring. Even if a spring opening occurs, I still want to keep myself and others safe post-vaccine. I practically lived off cast recordings, YouTube clips, and interviews to get my fill of this last season.
During this unprecedented time, I have also developed a temporary soft spot for bootlegs (I don't usually approve of them), since seeing a lot of the newer shows live is not possible, and they all might close in the near future. I've seen the bulk of the what-would-have-been full musical season, sans Tina and Diana, which I've heard are both terrible (Warren singlehandedly saves the former from complete disaster) and I had no interest in seeing them live anyway pre-shutdown. I haven't tracked down Girl from the North Country yet, and here's hoping Sing Street gets pushed back and not scrapped. I found an audio of Mrs. Doubtfire from Seattle, and from what I have heard, Tootsie is much better (both scores are lousy, though).
When all is said and done, some time after B'way reopens- '21, '22, or beyond- I will probably go back to despising bootlegs. But thanks to them, they are keeping me sane right now and for the foreseeable future.

Blockhead24, I just noticed you answered my question. Thanks for the info.
