Rebecca Luker revealed on Twitter that she was diagnosed with ALS. All best wishes to her and Danny Burstein for whats sure to be a challenging road ahead.
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe."

“Hello friends. I have some tough news. Late last year I was diagnosed with ALS. I have the best medical care in the world and the greatest support. My dear husband Danny has been an angel. I will get well. In the meantime, we fight and go forward. Keep us in your thoughts.“
...And let’s add this to our list of bad things happening to good people.
Best wishes, good luck, and good fortune to them. It’s a horrible disease, but all you can do is fight. I don’t really believe in much, but I believe in hoping for the best. So I will.
Very sad to hear this... she's so talented and I wish her the best. I didn't know a whole lot about ALS besides the ice bucket challenge from a few years ago. I recently watched the documentary "Gleason" on Amazon Prime and it devastated me. It's about a former NFL player who is diagnosed and chronicles his physical deterioration over the course of a very short period of time. I highly recommend it even though it's a tough watch.
Awful. I remember how excited I was when she came to New York with the Hal Prince Show Boat and sang Magnolia so beautifully. To everyone back then the Internet was America On-Line, and I sent her a question about how she came to have a credit for just one spoken word on John McGlinn's three disk collection of all the music of Show Boat. She was new in New York and went to see McGlinn just when they needed someone to say a line in the Gaylord Magnolia reunion scene.
And she sings "Falling in Love with Love" as well as anyone who has ever sung it.
Complaining about 30 years going by with no progress on ovarian cancer. It's been almost 80 years since Lou Gehrig died. To try to be fair to medical science, ALS is considered a rare disease.
When I first moved to Japan about 2 years ago, I went to a concert that celebrates Andrew Lloyd Webber’s 70th birthday. I was surprised to see Luker there and she seemed to be really enjoying herself. I’m so sorry to hear the news and wish Luker and Burstein and their family and friends nothing but the best.
The very first Broadway performance I ever saw was The Phantom of the Opera in 1990. Ms. Luker was playing Christine at the time. All the best to her and her family.
I'm sending pictures of the most amazing trees/You'll be obsessed with all my forest expertise
Very sad to hear this. Hope Luker and Burstein remain strong during this fight. I imagine Burstein will probably leave Moulin Rouge when he first gets the chance now, as I would guess he’d want to have more time to be there and support his wife right now.
Danny has had to deal with so much hard stuff in the last year... his show being shut down, his getting coronavirus to the point of near death, his wife's ALS diagnosis, his torn meniscus. Imagine what his kids might be thinking. Hope him and Rebecca stay strong.

I just read that article and also found it really hard to get through, and just want to tell a story about when I was a waiter at a restaurant on the UWS near where Rebecca and Danny live. Rebecca came in by herself for lunch and sat in my section, and I recognized her as soon as I walked over but I didn't acknowledge that to her. She was so strikingly kind and authentic, she asked my name and called me by it, she was so gracious, and she made the kind of eye-contact where you know someone is truly present with you. And she tipped me 30% on the meal. Another time she came in for dinner with Marin Mazzie, who also stunned me with her authenticity and presence, even in passing. I know that the Rebecca and Danny's loved ones must really be hurting, but I just wanted to mention this to say that even in her most casual and transactional interactions, Rebecca Luker makes people feel seen and cared about. She is obviously such a kind and loving woman. Sending them so much love xoxo
