Can't wait to hear these. I've heard such interesting things about this show, I'm so interested to see how the critics felt about it. For those who have seen it, could this be a best musical nom? Pretty open season for new musicals so I feel anytbings got a shot

It’s the best musical this season thus far.

I hope this show gets the positive reviews it deserves. Is it the best musical ever? No.
Is it groundbreaking? No
But it has so much heart, a very catchy score and one of the funniest books in a long time. I also think it’s the best musical so far this season (and better than Mean Girls)

I'm rooting for this show so much! Agree that it's not a flawless show if I wanted to sit and dissect it, but I didn't care at the theatre. It totally won me over. I'm hoping the critics had the same reaction.

The marketing has been so strange/nonexistent for this show... it's really a shame. I don't think a lot of people even know what it is, or what it's about. Here's hoping that the reviews are raves so that more people hear about it and buy tickets.

@Mike Barrett, definitely!! I'd be very surprised if this wasn't nominated come May, both for the show and a few of the stellar performances. Though we'll see what the critics have to say.

I really enjoyed it, and it's one of my favorite theatregoing experiences this season. I agree with JudyDenmark that it will get a Best Musical nomination, as well as for Beth Leavel, Brooks Ashmanskas, Caitlin Kinnunen, and Michael Potts. I realize that's a lot of acting nominations, but there really isn't much competition, and they're deserving performances.

I attended a talk back a few days ago hosted by Michael Riedel and he indicated he felt it would be a hit - hoping others agree!

I'm going to go on a limb and assume this isn't anymore than a separate render; there are already multiple versions of the traditional logo they have been using for months now. (Example, this one that was posted a few days ago is also new: https://www.instagram.com/p/BqFrbGGhJLV/)

Either way, looks cute!

Love the new logo! Honestly, I think I'm going to buy my tickets tonight unless these are universal pans, hearing too many wonderful things!

I’m friends with somebody who works on the show and they will be getting new artwork soon after opening night. I didn’t pry for much information past what I told you so I can’t say for sure if this is the new artwork but it very well might be.

I've been looking forward to this one.  It just looks joyous and fun.  I can see this becoming a sleeper hit (though I still Tootsie will be the show to beat this season).

I won't be surprised if the negative reviews keep coming in. It was sweet and had a strong heart, but a good musical it was not.

Hollywood Reporter is mixed: "If the two halves aren't entirely seamless, especially in the uneven second act, the show has enough humor and heart to paper over the cracks." "Even if the material is contrived and the songs are catchy without being exactly memorable, the terrific cast sells it all with irresistible verve, making this a small-scale crowd-pleaser that sends you out with a smile."

I bought a ticket for this for December, based largely on the interesting reviews it was receiving here on BW.

If the reviews continue to come in as lukewarm, however, I won't sweat it too much.  I saw American Psycho primarily because of my interest in seeing what they would do with its edgy storyline onstage. Second, the interesting reviews (and largely positive comments) it was receiving from posters on here.  And lastly, the snippets of the score I had heard.

I went to the show despite the negative reviews it got.  And I was so glad I did.  I really liked it.

Based on what people on here are saying about The Prom, it seems like the kind of musical I will be entertained by, even if the "professionals" aren't.   On several occasions (in addition to the American Psycho experience), I have loved musicals the critics didn't.  And conversely, loathed those they liked.

So bring it on come December, regardless of what happens tonight in reviews.

I thought The Prom was a hot mess. Completely amateur and cheap beyond belief. Not surprised by some of these reviews.
