Very interesting... she sounds very good and made it her own. Do I think it's right for the role though? No. Also, anyone else think she'd be great in Rent Live?
Ugh. Between the expression that looks like someone is punching her and her inability to open her eyes, that was pretty bad. And Dave is right, no emotion nor any understanding.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
In her defense, her voice sounds great, and she's trying really hard to make it sound "pretty." I think with some direction she easily could've gotten to a much stronger place acting wise - because yeah, she has no clue what to think or do in this song.
She would've been terrible in the movie, but just as a cover, I enjoy her singing it.
"Oh look at the time, three more intelligent plays just closed and THE ADDAMS FAMILY made another million dollars" -Jackie Hoffman, Broadway.com Audience Awards
Yes, she is not a very good actress and would've been bad in this movie, but honestly, if you just listen to it, it's actually not bad. It isn't the song as it exists in the musical, but it's sort of a unique spin on it. I wouldn't mind if she released a more official cover.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
She couldn't learn it? Even the chorus? So that she might put the paper down? It's certainly not a bad cover, but the whole endeavor smacks of indifference.

This is probably one of the worst audition tapes I've ever seen. She's a millionaire and can't even bother to get good lighting? Not to mention the paper, closing her eyes, and looking like she's in pain... damn this bad.
I'm one who usually prides myself on being able to separate my personal opinions of a person from their talents.
Admittedly, I'm not much of a fan of MC, but I will express my opinion about her performances in a way that is as fair as possible.
And this is not good. The only way the casting of her in this musical would have happened is if they were looking to stunt cast the movie just to get a name to bring in a certain demographic. It certainly wouldn't have been a talent thing. She does not embody the character at all. Nor does her rendition of this beautiful song.
This makes me wonder why she auditioned in the first place. Based on the lack of effort, she clearly didn’t want the part. I wouldn’t even call this an audition. This looks more like she’s just going over the song really quick as a vocal warm up or something. I feel like if she actually learned the song and attempted to act, she’d be fine.
A. It's an audition. If it's an audition, you hold the sides. Always. It's not a performance. That is auditioning 101. Know your words, sure, but you're always suppose to hold the sides.
B. We don't know where she is in the process. Maybe they wanted acapella so they know she could sing live on set, etc. Who knows.
C. I think she sounds great, honestly, but not an actress at all.
