Oh dear, I just listened to "Pink". HOLY mother. Why is this score not nominated for a Tony? I don't think it should win over The Great Comet but it is scores (hehe) better than Come From Away and Groundhog Day.

Because the rest of this score is not nearly as beautiful or clever as this song, which is the crown jewel of the whole evening. I would probably also nominate it over GROUNDHOG DAY (which I enjoyed, though not for the score), but I'm not a nominator. So, I'll just enjoy listening to this one song on repeat.

The only song I liked in Groundhog Day was "Playing Nancy" and that had nothing to do with the actual plot of the show. I feel that Nancy song can itself be the "I want" song in a musical about a misunderstood blonde who's trying to break the stereotypes.
And while "Pink" is amazing, I also think very highly of "If I Were A Man" and "Face To Face". The Revlon song was also fun, although I don't remember it too well now since the only time I heard it was in Chicago last summer.

There are for sure a few clunkers in the score, but "Back on Top", "Face to Face", "Behind the Red Door", "Pink", and "If I Were a Man" are all excellent, IMO.
The only song I really enjoy from GROUNDHOG DAY is "If I Had My Time Again".

I also really enjoyed "Now You Know," "Better Yourself," and "Forever Beautiful" very, very much.
In fact, the only songs I thought were not so good were "Step On Out" and the bizarre "Dinosaurs."

I'm in the definite minority in that I liked a good deal of the War Paint score (aside from the truly awful Dinosaurs) but was underwhelmed by Pink.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

When seeing the Goodman production, Pink was the only song that drew my attention and resonated with me. The rest of the score was pleasant, but completely forgotten shortly thereafter.

Yep. It's a much better score than the repetitive and hokey Come From Away.
I think "Pink" resonates with so many people because it is the one song in the score that comes closest to the hauntingly beautiful "Another Winter in a Summer Town."

They won't perform it, but I honestly would feel incredibly embarrassed for anyone involved in Come From Away should their show have to follow a performance of "Pink" at the Tony Awards (or as much as I love her, if Bette Midler had to perform after the War Paint performance). I'd metaphorically pat the Come From Away team on the head and give them kudos for their cute show and heartfelt message, but it is a little bit like amateur hour in comparison.

I so wish the cut songs were on the album cuz I didn't particularly care for Putting Your Best Face Forward. This score was my absolute favorite of the season and it breaks my heart it wasn't tony nominated! I can't echo what you all have said about CFA and Groundhog Day's score. I liked almost every song from War Paint (except Dinosaurs which I found so cringe worthy) and I wish it faired better than it did this award season.

It's a real shame A Woman's Face is not a bonus track. I loved that as the opener.

I must say that for me, "Pink" just sounds like "Another Winter in a Summer Town" re-orchestrated with different lyrics.

I saw the show on Sunday and absolutely loved it, I definitely see this becoming a bit of a cult show in the future. That being said, I found Pink to be a nice song for sure, but I don't really understand all of this hype that it has. For me, the musical high point had to be Forever Beautiful, Patti's voice is just stunning and that last big note? Chills all over! I so cannot wait for this to come out on Friday!

I don't know. Maybe I'm missing something. Caught the show this afternoon and wanted to love it so bad, but boy oh boy was I disappointed. Lupone was wonderful. Ebersole fell flat and after all the hyping of "Pink" on these boards, I was seriously underwhelmed. This plot is thin and the score is so bland. Maybe I'll give it another try once the recording comes out.

Then only song I didn't care for was the overly long Fire & Ice.
I am so torn. I want to see Sunset Blvd. but I really want to go back to WAR PAINT just to see them sing Face to Face again. That song left me breathless.
