Kidman is one of Hollywood’s leading actresses and producers (she produces most of her projects). Any hopes of Block finding work on some major film/TV projects was just killed. Kidman is part of the leading women power players in Hollywood who are pro-women, etc. Block can now keep herself on Broadway. Nice job burning bridges, Block. You think these things, you don’t say them on social media. Even if Kidman doesn’t see her comments directly, others will bring it to her attention.

^Except that everyone in Hollywood reading Block's tweet (and let's be serious, no one is) would agree with what she said.

I don’t think Block really needs to worry about repercussions. Plenty of other people said the same thing, and I doubt Kidman even knows who she is.

And even then, Kidman’s not really some all powerful producer. She’s only produced a few projects so far, and I doubt she has the pull to make sure all of Hollywood blackballs Block.

Adore Nicole Kidman but she's better in drama. Every time she's done comedy IMO she's fallen flat. Latest example is The Prom.

Regardless if others fully agree with Block, I work in the industry. To us it’s more about the fact she’s talking smack makes her look ugly. It’s not what she’s saying, it’s the fact she’s trash-talking that gets noticed.

I’ve seen many actresses be taken off the list of consideration of a project simply because one person didn’t like that actress. Emmy Award winning actresses quickly removed off the list.

I’m hearing many disapproving of Kidman as Lucille Ball. Not one person is sharing their views on social media. You keep that crap to yourself. Geez.  Especially when you’re a public figure.

I am not excited about this casting. And it bewilders me.
But Renee Z as Judy also bewildered me.  And I loved her.

Not a good look on Block at all. A shame, I liked her

Kidman is playing Lucille ball, not Lucy Ricardo or other incarnations of Lucy that Ball played. I just can't see her looking anything like her, which I think is extremely important when you're playing an actual person. IDK. I just don't think that either of these actors look like Lucy or Desi. maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised like I was with Renee Zellweger's Judy.
Also, what Block said was very light shade, and honestly pretty truthful. We all know that having work done on your face decreases your ability to show expression. Lol

Didn’t seem to have much to say on the subject when playing Cher...

As long as they don't attempt to re-create any classic moments from the actual show, it might not entirely suck.  Or are they dumb enough to have Nicole Kidman take a crack at Vitameatavegamin?

If this is true, that a woman with a career almost entirely composed of flops is so powerful might be an indicator of what is wrong with Hollywood.

This is basically an ad for cowardice. Which also explains something about what's wrong with Hollywood. Block's comments were accurate, it's a comment I've heard frequently made about her, and what do you know, Block was willing to be real rather than play politics. If she is endangering her career for saying what she thinks regardless, I admire her for it.

Does anyone find it odd that a Spaniard is once again playing a Latino, especially after Hilaria Baldwin's controversy? Do Americans really think we are the same?

Big Little Lies was a flop? Moulin Rouge was a flop? The Undoing was a flop? The Hours was a flop? The Others was a flop?

The two shows can probably be counted as flops and Moulin Rouge did okay at the box office, but was not a massive hit. You've listed a tiny portion of her filmography in comparison to the number of movies she's made,  and she's been in more stinkers than any other big name I can think of.

I thought she was good in The Hours, which I thought was a pretty good movie in general. But to call her track record "spotty" isn't even the half of it.

Big Little Lies was a flop?

Everyone knows it won every award under the sun and it was ridiculously popular. Even delusional posters know both things are true.

Every Moulin Rouge was a flop?

Ah yes. A flop suddenly means a movie that made 179 million off a 52 million dollar budget (three a half times the budget) is a HUGE FLOP. Like Trump, that sad person lies about things that are debunked in literally three seconds. It's hilarious.

I'm sorry how was Big Little Lies a flop? It won a bunch of awards, became water cooler talk for the issues it brought up about domestic violence, and Nicole Kidman's performance in particular was praised to the skies.

I guess Meryl Streep said “no” to their offer? So they settled for Kidman?

No, Cate Blanchett did.

I would really watch this if it was about their life and not Lucy and Ricky.  They could include scenes of what it really was like during rehearsals.  How the four of them reacted to each other.  I just can't see Lucie and Desi Jr allowing a warts and all story about their parents.

The biggest issue I have with the Stephanie J. Block backlash is, she wasn’t talking trash about Nicole Kidman. She even went on to say that she herself has had Botox. She was questioning the casting decision, because it makes zero sense on any level. She even went on to say that she’s had Botox herself, and that Kidman’s work achieved the desired effect which is to freeze facial muscles. Lucille Ball did not have a frozen face.

Nevertheless, Kidman does not look, sound, or even bring the essence of Lucille Ball. This is an extremely odd casting choice.

I am big. It’s the REVIVALS that got small.

Don’t know where you get your info but the film IS about Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz - not the Ricardos.  They are using the setting of a week of production of I LOVE LUCY while showing their faltering relationship amongst a Red Scare that occurred during the run of the series.

And yes, the film will show the good, bad and the ugly.  Lucie Arnaz has always been open and frank about her parents - their strength and their faults.  She’s mentioned this film will show the real sides of who her parents were as real people - not their iconic TV characters.

I hope they show the genuine affection between Lucy and Desi that people who knew them always commented on. I also hope Javier Bardem is able to capture the charm of Desi. I once watched a late night segment with Desi and the guy could charm the skin off a snake. Just a funny, appealing person. (Also an alcoholic and gambleholic and womanizer but ...)

You can sense some of it in this charming home video they made years after they were divorced. They were playing with their grandson.

Didn't last long and thus presumably didn't make a lot of money. That's kinda the definition of "flop"--not around very long, and not financially that effective vs. whatever the cost of production. This is a weird topic  to obsess over unless one is Kidman's publicist.
