This is nonsense!  Every musical does not need razzle dazzle!

Yazbeck's score to the TBV is phenomenal and would've won in a more competitive year. Yazbeck's work has always been exciting.

I won lottery seats for tomorrow night, as did my partner.  There must not be much demand for this show.

I try to see all of the tryouts in Chicago, but I don't really have high hopes for this one.  I'm not a big fan of any of Yazbeck's other scores.  I love the source movie, though.  I'm not thrilled to hear that the timeline has been updated and the setting changed.

We'll see . . . maybe the lower expectations will elevate my opinion :)

I’ll be seeing the first preview tomorrow also, and while I’m going in with zero knowledge or expectations on the show itself (we’ve definitely seen a mix of terrific and terrible movie adaptations), I’m most excited about hearing the score. I get that it’s all a matter of taste, but I really don’t get the comments about Yazbek’s scores being boring and forgettable. Even in disappointing shows, I’ve also thought his songs were interesting, unique, complex, emotional and frequently extremely funny. I’m hoping to hear a whole show full of his signature style.

A lot of the heart and soul from the film was Hoffman's performance.

Fontana would need to give a perfect performance to avoid the crushing comparisons.

I'm also curious as to how a man taking a role from a woman will resonate today.

How will he sing/sound like a woman and how will the 'unattractive female' joke work at an audition? Unlikely.

Auditioning for a musical? How ridiculous, and how can those wonderful 'ad lib' lines in the Soap work in a supposed scripted musical?

Let's wait and see.

I’m surprised we haven’t heard any reviews here yet! I feel like with Moulin Rouge, we already had 3-4 before Act I was even over.

I won the lottery for second preview tomorrow, as did two friends. I don’t know anyone who has lot yet, so it seems a pretty good lottery to enter!

Why, because you read a puff piece.  I hope Mr. Jones isn't thinking about reviewing the show after doing that story.  And frankly it sounds dreadful and any director who says "this is not your grandfather's Tootsie" is all about himself.

I have to agree with you here. I'm all for updating the text (and I actually think changing the premise from a TV soap to a Broadway stage makes perfect sense), but it's a really bad choice to mess around with a property that's been beloved for nearly 40 years. Of course, I'm holding out judgment until I see it, but I really hope they keep the heart and humor of the original without adding a million contrived 2018 references.

Just got out of the show. This is gonna be a hit!! A couple little tweaks. But overall very very solid. Santino had everyone eating out of the palm of his hand the entire show. I’ll post more tomorrow when I’m not on my phone.

can you not openly boast about having illegally recorded the audio from a first performance, do you have literally ANY respect for the artists
