mid-January 2018. Curious. So I'm guessing he's leaving with Bette on 14th January or right before? Would be surprised if he doesn't take at least a week off between shows.

I was thinking the same thing. It seems almost like an unspoken rule that no one leaves DOLLY before Bette takes her final bow.

My favourite quote about this show from The Globe & Mail around Tony time:

The big winner at the Tony Awards, Dear Evan Hansen, features an extraordinary central performance by Ben Platt as the title character, an anxious teenage misfit; I suspect the problems with that show are going to become more apparent once he leaves.

Absolutely going to have to check Trensch out as Evan! Super exciting to hear so much of the OBC signed on for an extension! I wonder as well why Kristolyn is leaving a few months before everyone else, I love her so I am excited to see what she's got coming next!

I'd dismissed the show after seeing it one time, but this is interesting.

Both actors are good at playing up a slight darkness under the surface, and I'm intrigued to see what they might bring to the role.  That type of edge could help me understand Evan's motivation a bit more.  When I saw Platt I felt absolutely no sympathy for the character.  I wanted to understand it, but nothing 'clicked' for me and my mind couldn't get past the loathing I felt toward Evan's actions.

I'll probably swing back to see Taylor take on the role

Not to mention his appalling attack on Colton Haynes- it's hard for me to separate the person from the performer and after that whole disgusting thing I don't like him. No denying he is talented though.

Thank God I'm not the only one who can't divided acting ability from the fact that Noah Galvin is a problematic little gay white boy.

It'll be interesting to see Noah's Evan infatuated with a girl.

Can't wait to see Taylor's take. Noah makes me ill when I look at him after his disgusting Vulture interview.

On Colton Haynes coming out: “The worst…But you know he talked about coming out. He didn’t actually say he was gay. That’s not coming out. That’s f-cking p-ssy bull****. That’s like, enough people assume that I sleep with men, so I’m just going to slightly confirm the fact that I’ve sucked a dick or two. That’s not doing anything for the little gays but giving them more masturbation material."

Um.....isn't this opposite of what the show stands for?  What a disgusting, despicable choice.  And um....THIS GUY as EVAN?  I don't think so.

I've seen Ben and both the understudies. I'm excited to see Taylor, and Noah is very talented. I enjoyed him on The Real O'Neals. The controversy that comes with him makes him a surprising choice, though.

Gavin did several follow-up interviews apologizing for his comments. So I'm over that nonsense. He's also doing it for 2 months. It's also sold out until June, so does it even matter who's in it? That said, I'm excited for both of them, I think they'll be great. But I agree with the other poster who wonders whether the faults in the piece will be more apparent with a new lead.

Excited to hear about Taylor Trensch! He did a really good job as Moritz in Spring Awakening so I'm sure he'll be amazing for DEH!!

The show is nowhere near "sold out until June."

Well, one thing Noah has going for him is that he plays very young. I find both the understudies more sympathetic because they come off a lot younger than Ben does. Obviously Evan is an extremely problematic character, especially outside of an initial viewing. When you think about the story and the character, it's all extremely messed up, but having someone as a more believable teenager makes the character more sympathetic for me. Noah plays seventeen very convincingly, so I think that's a plus for him.

Taylor looks older but is around the same age as Laura Dreyfuss and Will Roland, I believe.

I do hope that Noah has learned from that whole expierence and that he is truly sorry. I'm glad that he isn't the permanent replacement though. I do think the fact that the majority of the rest of the cast is staying on until May could help make the transition to a new Evan smoother and might help cover up some of the underlying problems with the script for a short time,

Taylor is 28.  Gavin is 23.

As for "being convinced" that Gavin can be attracted to a woman?  That's called acting.  And if I can see an actor's sexual orientation on stage, they are simply a "s h i t t y actor" as the beautiful Brandon Uranowitz said at 54 Below.

For distasters like that see: 2009 Revival of West Side Story.  Jesus Christ.

You all are seriously going to sit here and argue about Gavin's actions, when Evan Hansen, a white boy who lies to get everything he wants with no repercussions and then gets his "anxiety" magically cured, is totally justifiable? Why are more people not seeing this? It's infuriating to me. I've never rooted for Evan. I find him the most unlikable protagonist in recent musical theater history.

Plenty of seats after December.   (Not in the orchestra on the dates I poked around at)....but lots in the mezz.

Trensch...well, I guess we don't have to worry about the role wrecking his voice, since it's already wrecked.

Can you elaborate on your comment about Trensch, and what evidence you are basing it on? It's a pretty damning claim.

He sounds fine in Dolly but Barnaby isn't the most challenging of roles.   He was pretty weak in BARE a few years ago, quite off key and often.   But that's all I've seen him in.
