Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) announces the establishment of a Science Advisory Team to serve as a resource to BSO Music Director Marin Alsop and Vice President of Education and Community Engagement Carol Bogash in the development of educational science-themed music programs. The team consists of two eminent scientists: Dr. Charles Limb of the Johns Hopkins University and Dr. Mario Livio of the Space Telescope Science Institute.

Olney Theatre Center Begins Search for New Artistic Director

Olney Theatre Center announces that Martin Platt is no longer serving as the Artistic Director of the Theatre. An Artistic Director search will begin immediately and Olney Theatre Center plans to fill this position by early 2013. In the interim, Alan Wade will be serving as our Artistic Director.

The musical runs weekends at 1 p.m. today, Dec. 8 through Dec. 23 except the Dec. 15 performance is sold out with an additional performance 4 p.m., Dec. 16, in J-137, the J Building Lecture Hall, CCBC Essex, 7201 Rossville Blvd.

Everyman Theatre Hosts 'Wrap Party' Before Grand Opening Downtown Today

Today, December 8th, Everyman Theatre will be hosting a "Wrap Party" to say good-bye to its home of 18 years on Charles Street. The theatre company will be inviting subscribers, volunteers, board members, and more to visit the Charles Street location for one final time before the new location on Fayette Street officially opens to the public in January, 2013. The Open House-style party will occur from 2 PM to 5 PM.

There's no denying the endless list of responsibilities designated to a production's beloved stage manager. It's hard to imagine a show running smoothly without one, and even harder to believe shows like that even happen. Ruth Anne Watkins, a senior at the University of Maryland, taught an entire crew how to operate with a stage manager when the School of Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies and National Academy of Chinese Theater Arts' bilingual production of A Midsummer Night's Dream went overseas to Beijing, China.

The Strand Theater Company welcomes Baltimore playwright, performing artist, and educator Deletta Gillespie with her original show, What A Girl Wants. Start with seven women preparing for a charity clothing sale and fashion show. Add copious amounts of coffee, wine, arguments, gossip, a copy of Playstud magazine, and an eight-hour deadline, and you have the recipe for a comic romp through the minds and lives of women, who have lived enough to know exactly what they want out of life...or...not. The cast includes Peg Nichols, Erica Poe, Signe Renn, Cheri George, Renee Timms, Quiera Monet, and Lisa F. Scott, with Monica Clory understudying the role of Patience, played by Erica Poe.
Single Carrot Theatre Announces it Will be First Tenant at 2600 N. Howard Street

Single Carrot Theatre announces plans to move to 2600 N. Howard Street, currently Mr. James' Tire Shop in the coming year. Seawall Development will reopen the tire shop as a freshly rehabilitated historic building, focused on non-profits, performance, and dining. Single Carrot Theatre, previously housed at Load of Fun on North Avenue, is the first tenant of the building. "We're thrilled to partner with Single Carrot, which is known for bringing excellent theatre and education programs to Baltimore," says Seawall partner Evan Morville. "Single Carrot Theatre has worked alongside us and selected this building as their new home. We can't wait to see what they do with the space and for the neighborhood."

National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Chairman Rocco Landesman announced Wednesday that CENTERSTAGE is one of 832 non-profit organizations nationwide to receive an NEA Art Works grant for its Spring 2013 Raisin Cycle. The announcement comes on the heels of CENTERSTAGE Artistic Director Kwame Kwei-Armah's own Beneatha's Place, penned for the Cycle, receiving the Edgerton New American Play Award.
Imagination Stage Receives NEA Grant for ANIME MOMOTARO

National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Chairman Rocco Landesman announced November 27, 2012, that Imagination Stage is one of 832 non-profit organizations nationwide to receive an NEA Art Works grant. Imagination Stage is recommended for a $30,000 grant to support Anime Momotaro, the largest grant the theatre has ever received from the NEA.
