Silver Spring Stage Presents A CHRISTMAS CAROL, 12/7-16

Silver Spring Stage will present the family festive favorite Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol adapted by Michael Hardwick, directed by Pauline Griller-Mitchell and produced by Natalie McManus and Pauline Griller-Mitchell. The holiday classic has delighted generations with the story of Ebenezer Scrooge visited by the Ghosts of Christmas to reveal his past, present and future if he continues miserly ways. This hour-long version of A Christmas Carol will run two weekends only December 7 to December 16.

Here in Baltimore, it seems to be Bus Stop season. It's been less than a month since I reviewed the Spotlighters' community theater production of the William Inge 1955 classic; now it's Center Stage's turn. And of course Center Stage (or is it Centerstage these days?) gives it a full-dress professional staging. The difference is surprisingly great.

Anime Momotaro is a staging of a famous Japanese folktale that teaches powerful lessons about inner strength and the ability to stand up against bullying. Created and premiered by the Honolulu Theatre for Youth, Imagination Stage is bringing Eric Johnson (adaptor/director) and Alvin Chan (adaptor/choreographer) from Hawaii to develop an expanded version for Imagination Stage audiences.

The theatre company will be inviting subscribers, volunteers, board members, and more to visit the Charles Street location for one final time before the new location on Fayette Street officially opens to the public in January, 2013. The Open House-style party will occur from 2 PM to 5 PM.

The Strand Theater Company welcomes Baltimore playwright, performing artist, and educator Deletta Gillespie with her original show, What A Girl Wants. Start with seven women preparing for a charity clothing sale and fashion show. Add copious amounts of coffee, wine, arguments, gossip, a copy of Playstud magazine, and an eight-hour deadline, and you have the recipe for a comic romp through the minds and lives of women, who have lived enough to know exactly what they want out of life...or...not. The cast includes Peg Nichols, Erica Poe, Signe Renn, Cheri George, Renee Timms, Tiffani Bliss Brown, and Lisa F. Scott, with Monica Clory understudying the role of Patience, played by Erica Poe.

Charles Dickens' classic A Christmas Carol is returning to Frederick for the nineteenth straight year with Maryland Ensemble Theatre's production December 14 through 16 at the Weinberg Center for the Arts. The cast of over two dozen actors, the two-story set, the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, Future and Tiny Tim will transport audiences to Victorian England as the penny-pinching Ebenezer Scrooge learns the error of his miserly ways and embraces the true spirit of Christmas. BSO Welcomes 104 Howard County High School Musicians for Side-by-Side Concert, 2/20

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) and 104 students from the Howard County Gifted and Talented Orchestra will play Side-by Side in a concert led by Maestro Shizuo Kuwahara on February 20, 2013 at 7:30 pm at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. This new partnership will commence in a special concert featuring works by Elgar, John Adams and Mahler. Additionally, young pianist Alisa Hwang winner of the Howard County Concerto Competition, will perform the first movement from Prokofiev's 3rd Piano Concerto.
