Choose Your Own Adventure at A MIDNIGHT VISIT

By:

Using the works and worlds of the macabre master Edgar Allan Poe as inspiration, Sydneysiders are invited into an immersive playground, stretching over 30 rooms across a two-storey warehouse. A Midnight Visit is a theatrical, choose-your-own- adventure experience unlike anything Sydney has seen before. Expect adult concepts, uneven floor surfaces, small spaces, a cohort of troubled characters and many adventures to be had - like in life, no two visits are the same.

"The experience explores themes of madness, guilt, death, impermanence and memory - just the small things in life. Set inside one of Poe's dreams, not that you need to know anything about the man, it's a place where the characters from his life and his literature collide. It's sometimes funny, sometimes sexy, sometimes wistful, and yes, sometimes a bit scary!", says Danielle Harvey, Director and Co-Creator.

In an abandoned warehouse takeover, A Midnight Visit has a limited residency at the end of King Street, Newtown, with the site slated to be demolished to become apartments. This innovative use of space melds the talents of artists from different genres, with sound design and composition from video game makers Peret von Sturmer and Kpow, visuals by magazine and film-set designer Jess Jacob and costumes by theatre designer Melanie Liertz. Joined by a cast of popular Sydney actors, this enchanting dream world is brought to life across 3500m2.

"We are big fans of a number of immersive experiences like Meow Wolf, Sleep No More, Third Rail Projects and escape rooms, because they really give audiences something unique and extraordinary. We know audiences are craving an opportunity to get out of the conventions of traditional arts venues, to get amongst it, to feel it, to be transported in every way possible", says Kirsten Siddle, Creative Producer.

Fellow Creative Producer Simon Hayward says, "We thought Sydney deserves something really special, unlike anything the city has seen before, taking audiences on a truly captivating journey which uses local spaces in new and pioneering ways. We've come together with a bunch of great creative minds and have let our imaginations go wild".

The fantasy world created by A Midnight Visit draws from steam-punk, David Lynch, Stanley Kubrick and contemporary classics like Stranger Things. Visitors will receive hints at what's in store in emails from 'The Undertaker' after booking. As they say, fortune favours the bold!

A Midnight Visit also features a bespoke pop-up bar 'The Raven's Rest', curated by Studio Neon, who specialise in creating memorable food and drink experiences. Recent projects have included Bombay Sapphire Project Botanicals, Longines Records Club at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and Christian Louboutin's recent visit to Australia.
