BWW Interviews: Victoria Mallory - 'Anna' in THE KING AND I at The Fox Theatre

When The King and I, the perennial Rodgers and Hammerstein classic musical makes its way back to The Fox Theatre stage September 5 - 11, a familiar face will once be there once again to charm Atlanta audiences. Victoria Mallory who's first professional production at age 11 was in The King and I with the very same company, comes full circle and makes a triumphant return to the Atlanta stage in the role of Anna, the schoolteacher who journeys to Siam and falls for the gregarious king. I had the pleasure of speaking with Victoria about the timelessness of this musical, the role of Anna and what its like to return to Atlanta, Theater of the Stars and The King and I after a long and successful career.
Atlanta Symphony Members Perform 'Slave Songs of the Georgia Sea Islands' Tonight, 8/18

As part of the traveling exhibition, New Harmonies: Celebrating American Roots Music, members of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will join the Geechee Gullah Ring Shouters to perform "Songs of the Georgia Sea Islands" - a collaborative program of African-American spirituals and slave songs native to the Georgia Low Country - tonight, August 18, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. in the Archie B. Myers Sr. Fine Arts Center at the McIntosh Academy in Darien, GA. This concert is free and open to the public.

Atlanta's nationally acclaimed Alliance Theatre will begin its Hertz Stage series with the world premiere of APPLES & ORANGES, a play by Tony Award, Academy Award, and Pulitzer Prize winning author Alfred Uhry. Kenny Leon and True Colors Theatre Company announce their 2012-2013 season. This is the 10th anniversary season for Kenny Leon's True Colors Theatre Company, which opens in November with a Regional Premiere of Leon's hit Broadway show, The Mountaintop by Katori Hall directed by Jasmine Guy. The Mountaintop will be followed by August Wilson's classic Two Trains Running in February 2013. The season concludes in July 2013 with Shakin' the Rafters, a World Premiere gospel musical by former Alliance Theatre Associate Artistic Director, David H. Bell, the writer who brought us Gut Bucket Blues and Hot Mikado.
Walter Huff Named Adjunct Professor at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music

Atlanta Opera Chorus Master, Walter Huff, will join the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music's faculty as Adjunct Associate Professor of Music (choral conducting) this fall. Along with his responsibilities at the Jacobs School, Huff will continue his duties as Atlanta Opera Chorus Master. Mr. Huff has been Chorus Master for The Atlanta Opera since 1988, and has prepared the chorus in more than 80 productions which have received critical acclaim in the United States and abroad.
