Venezuelan pianist Gabriela Montero returns to Spivey Hall with “Westward,” a program featuring extraordinary immigrant composers (Prokofiev, Rachmaninoff, Stravinsky) anchored by her improvised accompaniment to Charlie Chaplin’s 1917 film “The Immigrant.” Known as a master improviser, Montero’s visionary interpretations and unique compositions received critical acclaim and brought her a devoted following. A Latin Grammy® Award winner, Grammy® nominee and International Beethoven Award winner, Montero was also recognized by Amnesty International and the Human Rights Foundation as committed human rights advocate in her home nation.
