Submissions Open for 2nd Annual Atlanta Fringe Festival; Deadline Jan 15, 2013

By:

The Atlanta Fringe Festival has announced that submissions are now open for the second annual edition of the festival, set to run May 5-9, 2013. Now through January 15, 2013, AFF is accepting submissions for both the Fringe Festival and the Fringe Radio, with submission packets and more information available on their website www.atlantafringe.org. Applications for the Fringe Festival are $25 with productions selected via lottery. Applications for Fringe Radio are $15, with 25 slots available on a first come, first serve basis.

Entering its second year of curating innovative theatre for adventurous audiences, the Festival has many new and exciting developments for 2013, including the addition of 7 Stages and The Village Theatre to their roster of venues. The Horizon School Theatre will be returning from last year’s festival, as well (other venues to be announced at a later date.) Festival organizers hope to exceed the impressive roster for 2012’s inaugural festival, which boasted 27 productions from the Atlanta area and all around the country.

On the audio side, Fringe Radio will be offering internet broadcast of radio plays via our podcasting network, the only one of its kind in the Fringe Festival circuit. Those productions will be available for stream or download from May 27th-June 16th, 2013.

In addition, AFF will be launching a mobile app for iPhone and Android, allowing festival-goers to easily coordinate their schedules as they travel from venue to venue in search of the next great show. This, along with AFF’s YouTube channel and Tumblr with photos and interviews of the participating artists, will provide audiences with numerous opportunities to get to know the artists involved and preview the shows they’re most interested in.

Other events for the year include the speakeasy-themed participant Reveal Party at Ambient + Studio, an Easter-themed Art Hunt on March 23rd (location TBD), as well as numerous workshops leading up to the festival itself wherein guest speakers will be leading forums on submissions, playwriting, puppeteering, and various aspects of theatrical and festival production.

Those interested are encouraged to follow AFF on Twitter (@AtlantaFringe) and Facebook (www.facebook.com/atlantafringe), where they will find new announcements, volunteer opportunities, and lots of parody rap lyrics.
