Atlanta Symphony's Talent Development Program To Host Annual Fall Musicale, 12/2

By:

The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra's Talent Development Program (TDP), which supports the musical development of talented young African-American and Latino students, will hold its annual Fall Musicale on Sunday, December 2, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. The Musicale, held in support of the Azira G. Hill Scholarship Fund, will take place in Atlanta Symphony Hall at the Woodruff Arts Center. The performance is free and open to the public. Tickets are required, and are available at aso.org.

The Talent Development Program, which identifies musically-gifted and motivated African-American and Latino youth and prepares them for acceptance into top music programs in preparation for careers as professional musicians, has now become a model for other orchestras across the country. The Azira G. Hill Scholarship Fund, which lies at the heart of the program, was established in November 1999 and provides financial assistance that allows TDP students to attend prestigious national summer music study programs.

This year's Musicale will include performances by current TDP student musicians, and musical selections will include Dvo?ák's American Quartet, Saint-Saëns's The Swan, and Rossini's The Barber of Seville, among other chamber music selections. Accomplished conductor and educator G. Phillip Shoultz, III, will serve as the master of ceremonies, and the honorary chair for the event is Christopher C. "Chris" Womack, the Executive Vice President for the Southern Company and President of External Affairs.
