Art in America Editor Gives Public Keynote at Emory, 9/20

Lindsay Pollock, editor of Art in America, presents a public keynote address on Thursday, Sept. 20, 7 p.m. on the Emory campus. The presentation is free and open to the public; and launches the Sept. 20-22 symposium, "Off/Center: Art Writing from the Regions," hosted by the International Association of Art Critics (AICA), Emory University's Visual Arts Department and the Emory College Center for Creativity & the Arts.
New American Shakespeare Tavern Presents MEASURE FOR MEASURE, Now thru 9/29

Welcome to The Shakespeare Evolution Series! Now that New American Shakespeare Tavern has completed Shakespeare's entire canon, they're starting over by producing the plays in the order in which they were written. Last season the Tavern started with the comedies. The theatre will finish them in September 2012 and begin with the tragedies.

The Creative Writing Reading Series at Emory University kicks off Oct. 2 at 6:30 p.m. with two of the Creative Writing Program's postgraduate fellows in residence. Molly Brodak, Creative Writing Fellow in Poetry, and Harmony Neal, Creative Writing Fellow in Fiction, will give a joint reading of new work. A book signing will follow the reading.

When The King and I, the perennial Rodgers and Hammerstein classic musical makes its way back to The Fox Theatre stage tonight, September 5 through September 11, a familiar face will once be there once again to charm Atlanta audiences. Victoria Mallory who's first professional production at age 11 was in The King and I with the very same company, comes full circle and makes a triumphant return to the Atlanta stage in the role of Anna, the schoolteacher who journeys to Siam and falls for the gregarious king. I had the pleasure of speaking with Victoria about the timelessness of this musical, the role of Anna and what its like to return to Atlanta, Theater of the Stars and The King and I after a long and successful career.

The music was written by Lynn Aherns and Stephen Flaherty, who also wrote "Ragtime," which Newnan High School performed this past spring. Below are interviews with the show's director, Dave Dorrell, and choreographer Emily Moore.
