The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will present Planet Earth Live, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience the Emmy-Award®-winning series' most spectacular moments on the Amphitheatre's big screens, accompanied live by the Orchestra. This concert takes place as part of the U.S. premiere-tour on Friday, July 16, 2010 at 8:30 p.m.

Concertgoers will have the opportunity to learn more about ways to live a sustainable and earth-friendly lifestyle from Atlanta-area "green" organizations such as the Georgia Aquarium, Zoo Atlanta, and the Fernbank Museum. These organizations, along with many others, will have informational booths located on the east and west plazas of the Amphitheatre.
Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park is a not-for-profit performance venue owned by the Woodruff Arts Center and operated by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.

About BBC's Planet Earth
Planet Earth, a BBC/Discovery co-production, aired on the Discovery Channel in 2007. The BBC's Alastair Fothergill was the series producer and he and his team spent four years in production, with over 2000 days in the field, using 71 film crews, across 204 locations in 62 countries to capture the ultimate portrait of the planet. It has garnered legions of fans and universal critical acclaim with Oprah Magazine saying "It is the most beautiful, wondrous and truly majestic series - the best thing I've ever seen on TV."

The Amphitheatre Experience
Each Atlanta Symphony Orchestra concert at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park offers table-seating in the main Orchestra section of the venue, reserved seating throughout the pavilion, and lawn seating. Complementing this seating variation is an experience influenced by the repertoire and theme of the Orchestra: Live on-site broadcasts, Top of the Lawn conversations, and themed cuisine allow audiences to create their own unique evening of enjoyment at the ASO's summer home.

Top of the Lawn
Pre-concert "Top of the Lawn" events will continue in 2010. ASO Insider and Program Annotator Ken Meltzer will lead conversations on the tree-lined lawn of the Amphitheatre prior to each Atlanta Symphony Orchestra concert. Ken's conversations with artists and ASO musicians and guest artists will take place at the top-center of the lawn, and include a Q&A with the audience. The Top of the Lawn event for this concert will feature a conversation with conductor and composer George Fenton. It will begin at 7:40 p.m.

Text-Message Questions from Audience
Atlanta Symphony performances feature live interviews (projected on the jumbo screens) during concert intermissions. The interviews feature guest artists from the evening's performance, as well as musicians from the Orchestra, and are fueled by text-message questions sent by the audience the night of the concert.

Themed Cuisine
Ovations, the on-site caterer for Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre, will offer themed cuisine to complement the programming of all the Orchestra's concerts at the Amphitheatre. For the July 16th concert, a Planet Earth inspired picnic will accompany the regular fare offered at the venue. The $30 "Tote for Two" will feature: From the Land - Almond chicken with mixed grains and vegetables and pumpkin vinaigrette; From the Sea - Classic tuna salad stuffed tomato; and From the Air - Cloud Puff Meringue Pastry. Concertgoers not purchasing the "Tote for Two" will be able to enjoy the "stand special" - BBC wedge of sage derby cheese with Pullman bread and British relish available at concessions.
