After presenting a thrilling season of dance this past fall, we are pleased to announce our seventh annual Cool New York 2010 DANCE Festival presenting the work of 63 dance companies with 276 performers in 19 performances from the New York City area and beyond. Emerging young choreographers and world-renowned ensembles will perform spectacular, innovative works in two weeks of stunning contemporary dance from Wednesday, January 27th through Sunday, February 7th.

WHITE WAVE's Opening Night Benefit (Wed., Jan. 27th at 7pm) launches the Cool New York 2010 DANCE Festival with a dazzling evening of performance and celebration followed by a wine and cheese reception with live music entertainment by the ever-popular Bossa Nova Beatniks!

The Opening Night performance features seven rising and eminent companies that will grace the stage of the John Ryan Theatre: Formerly with Paul Taylor Dance Company, Takehiro Ueyama's TAKE Dance presents the duet "Whispering Within;" Elena Demyanenko, a current member of the Trisha Brown Dance Company, works with Spanish visual artist Itziar Barrio to combine video, animation, and movement in "Knowville;" the Israeli based company DaNaKa Dance by Dana Katz; a new emerging artist graduated from Tisch School of the Arts: Carrie J. Brown; the all female company Gehring Dancetheatre; choreographer Rebecca Alaly of Becca Alaly + Dancers (winner of the Suzanne Farrell Prize for outstanding artistry in the field of dance) will perform her haunting trio "Inside the Gingerbread House;" and lastly, WHITE WAVE Young Soon Kim Dance Company will present an excerpt from "SSOOTT III" a visually stunning and emotionally rich work with an original score composed by Marco Cappelli.

All net profits from Opening Night Benefit will be doubled thanks to a $15,000 matching grant from the Mertz Gilmore Foundation that will fund much needed renovations at our John Ryan Theater.

Tickets for the rest of the festival performances are FREE OF CHARGE. Including "A Day for the Family" which is a special program featuring dances the whole family can enjoy, and will be presented at both Saturday matinee performances on January 30 and February 6 at 2:00 PM.

Tickets to the benefit cost $30, and all net profits will be doubled thanks to a matching grant from the Mertz Gilmore Foundation that will fund much needed renovations at our John Ryan Theater. WHITE WAVE must raise $30,000 to enable these improvements to occur. So even if you can't make it to the Opening Night Benefit you can still contribute to this worthy cause. No matter how much you can donate, whether it is five dollars or five thousand dollars, please go to NYCharities.org's webpage and make your 100 percent tax deductible contribution to WHITE WAVE today!

Tickets for the Opening Night Benefit can be purchased by calling SmartTix at 212-868-4444, WHITE WAVE at 718-855-8822, or by going online to www.whitewavedance.com. Please join us for this great night of art and celebration!!!
