Gallery Henoch Presents Vincent Giarrano and Sharon Sprung in THE CITY thru 12/7

By: Nov. 13, 2013

The City, the current group show focusing on representations of New York, opened to great fanfare last week. It was a rare and welcomed occasion for many of the artists to meet each other, and for the public to see such a diverse collection of work on the same theme.

Sharon Sprung's I USED TO LIVE HERE, (left), is an evocative painting that possess a romantic, if not somewhat mysterious tone. The streets are virtually empty and the horizon lost in the mist. A little bit of blue sky at the top is the only suggestion of liveliness to come.

Vincent Giarrano's two new works are on display in the show, including Crosswalk, (above), the first large painting of Giarrano's to show at Gallery Henoch. "The figure is a major element in my work," says Giarrano. "I love capturing the beauty that exists in people moving
through daily life. I especially enjoy quiet moments that speak so much about our culture and society."(from Southwest Art, January 2012)

Giarrano punctuates these moments with a deft sense of color; In Dark Facade, (below), an otherwise cool palette is enlivend by the red of the woman's hair and chic shoes, bringing a sense of modernity to the historic Soho street. InCrosswalk, two friends stand under one umbrella. one woman's red shopping bag lyrically mirrored in the other's red rain boots, creating the impression of intimacy in the midst of a rainy street corner.

To see these and other works in the show, stop by the gallery.

The show runs now through December 7, 2013.
