The Ailey Extension welcomes dance and theater enthusiasts to participate in a Contemporary dance workshop series with The Lion King cast member, Ray Mercer, on April 11th, 18th and 25th at the Joan Weill Center for Dance, located at 405 West 55th Street (at 9th Avenue). This workshop series fuses Horton technique with elements of Contemporary Ballet in choreography combinations that will enhance dancers' individual performance qualities and musicality.

Ray Mercer is currently in the Broadway cast of The Lion King, NY. He has danced with such companies as Detroit City Dance Co, Deeply Rooted Dance Theater and Boston Ballet has set works on Philadanco, Dallas Black Dance Theater, Cleo Parker Robinson Dance and DRA: Dancers Responding to Aids/New York. Mercer has worked with notable artists such as Aretha Franklin, Rod Stewart, Stephanie Mills, Kevin "Iega" Jeff, George Faison and Louis Johnson. He has taught classes and master series worldwide and his acclaimed choreography has been highlighted in The New York Times, Chicago Sun Times, and Movement Magazine.

Since its inception in 2005, The Ailey Extension has fulfilled Mr. Ailey's life-long commitment of bringing dance to everyone by offering "real classes for real people". The Extension offers over 80 classes per week in over 25 different dance and fitness techniques for all levels.
