Beavercreek Community Theatre will be the site of a series of theater classes this summer aimed at not only the novice but also the seasoned young actor/actress.

BCT Children's Theatre will present a series of week-long classes during July under the guidance of teachers Teresa Connair and Katie Storost.

A professional actress, Connair has been teaching and directing in the Dayton area since 1995 and has been involved in over 300 shows. She has experience in television, radio, voice-over, industrial and
independent film as well as theatre.

Storost, who is also no stranger to the stage, has been teaching, choreographing and directing theater for over 10 years. Having worked with students of all ages, she said she enjoys sharing her love of music, dance and theater with others. She also enjoys watching her students "develop their skills and explore new horizons."

Connair will be teaching two classes from July 6 to July 10 for children ages 9 through 12. Both have registration deadlines of July 1 and cost $40 each.

"Theater Basics," from 4 to 5 p.m., will deal with basic theater history, stage directions, body positions, pantomime and script reading. The class will also include games that encourage creativity and improvisation.

"Auditioning," from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m., will instruct students about the ins and outs of auditioning, cold readings, call backs, proper etiquette, how to accept or decline a part and other essential parts of auditioning.

Connair will also be teaching a "Building a Character and Improvisation" class for teenagers, ages 13 to 18, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. July 20 through July 24. The class, which costs $65, will include building a character for a play and improving improvisation techniques as well as offering the students a chance to "have fun, take chances and grow as an actor." The deadline for registration is July 15.

Storost will be teaching two classes for children between the ages of six and nine. Both classes, "Musical Theater 101 for Kids" and "Put on Your Dancing Shoes, will run from 4 to 5 p.m. and cost $50 for each class. July 8 is the deadline for both classes.

"Musical Theater 101 for Kids" will be presented from July 13 through 17 and will teach the basics of performing in a musical. It will include preparing an audition song that can be used for a future audition.

During "Put on Your Dancing Shoes," which takes place July 27 through 31, students will learn many of the moves commonly used in musical theater.

Storost will also teach a second session of "Put on Your Dancing Shoes," for students ages 10 through 15, from 5:15 to 6:15 on July 27 through 31. This class will cost $60 and has a deadline of July 22.

For more information and a registration form email education@bctheatre.org or leave a message at 429-4737.

The classes will be held at the theater, which is within the Lofino Center at 3868 Dayton-Xenia Road in Beavercreek.
