Rob Lowe and John Barrowman will begin previews in the London production of Aaron Sorkin's A Few Good Men on August 18th; the military drama will officially open on September 6th.Lowe has been hitting it off with Londoners, including Prime Minister Tony Blair, who paid a visit to the film star's dressing room in appreciation for Lowe's vowing to stay in London after the tragic July 7th terrorist attack. In 2002, Lowe left "The West Wing," the hit NBC political drama that Sorkin created and writes. Lowe will play Lt. Daniel Kaffee,
a lawyer who must defend a soldier accused of killing one of this
fellow soldiers. John Barrowman will co-star as Lt. Jack Ross, SurAnne Jones (the British soap opera "Coronation Street") will portray Lt. Cdr. Joanne Galloway, and Jack Ellis (Royal Shakespeare Company alumnus) will be Col. Nathan R. Jessep. As Kaffee, Tom Cruise led a 1992 film to box office victory; it also starred Jack Nicholson (as Jessep), Demi Moore (as Galloway) and Kevin Bacon (as Ross). Broadway director David Esbjornson (The Goat, The Ride Down Mt. Morgan) will helm the show.
While Lowe is primarily known for his film work in such hits as the Austin Powers series, Contact, Wayne's World, Illegally Yours, St. Elmo's Fire, and The Hotel New Hampshire, he has also acted on Broadway, appearing in 1992's A Little Hotel on the Side.
Recently,
Barrowman reprised his star-making turn as Billy Crocker in the
National Theatre's production of Anything Goes. His many
West End credits includeThe Phantom of the Opera, Hair, Miss Saigon, Beauty and the Beast and Chicago, and he has appeared in the States in two Sondheim shows--Broadway's Putting It Together and as Bobby in Company
at the Kennedy Center. He has appeared on TV on "Central Park West,"
and "Titans," and currently plays Captain Jack on the BBC series "Dr.
Who." Recently seen in the movie musical, De-Lovely, he will appear as the Lead Tenor Stormtrooper in the upcoming film version of The Producers.A Few Good Men will feature sets by Michael Pavelka, costumes Beth Hope Clancy, lighting by Mark Henderson and sound by Ian
Dickinson. The original Broadway production of A Few Good Men opened
at the Music Box Theatre on November 15th, 1989 to run for 497
performances. The play was directed by Don Scardino, and Sorkin
received the 1989 Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding American
Playwright.
