BWW Reviews: Heavenly Goofy SISTER ACT National Tour Charms HollywoodBWW Reviews: Heavenly Goofy SISTER ACT National Tour Charms Hollywood
by Michael L. Quintos - Jul 17, 2013

Delightful and down-right hilarious, SISTER ACT - THE MUSICAL---the nun-tastic stage adaptation of the hit 1992 motion picture of the same name---is, frankly, to my pleasant surprise, an unexpected gem of a show. Heavily retooled from its 2006 Out-of-Town premiere at the Pasadena Playhouse and its eventual 2009 London debut, the Tony-nominated Broadway comedy's North American first national tour continues a three-week engagement at Hollywood's Pantages Theatre through July 28 (the tour is also scheduled for stops in nearby San Diego, July 30 - August 4 and Orange County, August 6-18). PETA, which normally waits for spokespeople to turn 18 before asking them to star in a 'provocative' campaign, has enlisted 16-year old Samia Najimy Finnerty for its new 'Vegans Go All the Way' ad. Samia, PETA's youngest pinup, is the singing-songwriting daughter of actor Kathy Najimy and singer Dan Finnerty of The Dan Band. The playful posters aimed at teens will debut in conjunction with the performer's show tonight, July 9 at Joe's Pub, at 6pm. Check out what Samia had to say about the cause below! (more...)

BWW Reviews: SISTER ACT is Truly Fabulous, Baby!BWW Reviews: SISTER ACT is Truly Fabulous, Baby!
by David Clarke - May 29, 2013

In all honesty, I was dreading seeing Broadway Across America - Houston's presentation of SISTER ACT's First National Tour at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts last night. As a fan of Alan Menken, I was elated to get my hands on a copy of the Original London Cast Recording in 2009. After giving the disc a whirl, I was anything but impressed. The musical ran at the London Palladium from June 2, 2009 to October 30, 2010. As it journeyed across the pond, the book was significantly reworked by Douglas Carter Beane for its rather successful April 20, 2011 to August 26, 2012 Broadway run at the Broadway Theatre. Between London, New York, and Houston, magic has definitely happened. The show, as it stands now, is a divinely delightful comedy that will leave audiences pumped and gushing about how truly fabulous it is. (more...)
