Travel back to the legendary, story-telling days of ancient China with The Katy Visual & Performing Arts Center's (KVPAC) action-packed stage adaptation of the animated Disney movie Mulan, Jr. presented by Junior COMPANY and directed by Elizabeth Scholl. The show, based on the story "Fa Mulan" by Robert D. San Souci, is a heartwarming celebration of culture, honor and a fighting spirit.

Set in ancient China, this story of adventure, courage and bravery is one for all ages. The story begins as Mulan's big day with the village Matchmaker is wrecked by her nervousness, thereby dishonoring her family, making herself feel terrible.

Her Father, Fa Zhou is unexpectedly called to the army by the Emperor's councilor, but instead Mulan steals her father's helmet and sword, dresses as a boy and runs away from home to go in his place. It is then up to the misfit Mulan and her mischievous sidekick Mushu to save the army from attack and rescue the kidnapped Emperor. The musical score by Matthew Wilder, David Zippel, Stephen Schwartz, Jeanine Tesori and Alexa Junge, includes favorites like "Reflection," "Honor to Us All," and "I'll Make a Man Out of You," as well as new songs that will get audiences up on their feet!

This exciting presentation, performed by KVPAC's talented Junior COMPANY, theatre students ages 8-12, is Elizabeth Scholl's final directorial production. Once a KVPAC theatre kid herself, Lizzy quickly graduated to production staff and became KVPAC's youngest director. She excelled and went on to direct such KVPAC treasures as The Velveteen Rabbit, Sleeping Beauty and If You Give A Mouse A Cookie.

"I will miss my kids very much," she says of her students. "I am so proud of all they have accomplished." Miss Scholl plans to depart this fall to pursue further theatrical studies and her career.
