Matthew Warchus Passes On Directing GYPSY Movie Starring Barbra Streisand
Acclaimed Tony Award-winning director Matthew Warchus has passed on directing the currently in development big screen edition of classic Golden Age musical GYPSY set to star iconic leading lady Barbra Streisand according to a new report.
Warchus was one of a handful of directors currently being considered for the proposed feature film starring the multi-hyphenate media mogul.
Apparently, Warchus's new appointment as the artistic director of the Old Vic, replacing Kevin Spacey, has precluded him from taking on any more additional projects. Warchus is also currently developing a stage adaptation of the film GROUNDHOG DAY with MATILDA collaborator Tim Minchin, which recently held a workshop presentation.
While known primarily for his theatre work on projects such as THE NORMAN CONQUESTS, GOD OF CARNAGE, MATILDA: THE MUSICAL, the 2000 Broadway revival of FOLLIES and many more, Warchus has recently expanded his brand to include films, as well, such as the forthcoming 80s-set PRIDE, starring Bill Nighy and Imelda Staunton, set to be released later this year.
