That's the story behind Devine Hamer Gray, a powerful new musical premiered in a staged reading by composer/playwright Nolan Williams, Jr., September 25 in Washington, DC, co-presented by NEWorks Productions and the March on Washington Film Festival. The musical tells the story of these heroic women-Annie Devine, Fannie Lou Hamer, and Victoria Jackson Gray-and the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party they helped to found.

Mosaic Theater Company of DC presents the second offering in its 'Stages of Awakening' Season 5 with the American premiere of Theory by Norman Yeung, directed by Associate Artistic Director, Victoria Murray Baatin, making her Mosaic directorial debut.  The play, Winner of Canada's Herman Voaden National Playwriting Competition and produced to acclaim at Toronto's Tarragon Theatre last fall, runs at the Atlas Performing Arts Center from October 23 through November 17, 2019.  Opening press night takes place Monday, October 28 at 7:30 pm following 5 preview performances, including a full Pay-What-You- Can performance October 23, with additional Pay-What-You-Can tickets available throughout the preview period. 
Keegan's 'Playwright In Residence Series' Joins WEST BY GOD Premiere

As part of a new initiative to showcase works by exciting emerging playwrights, Keegan Theatre's Boiler Room Series presents the inaugural Playwright in Residence Series. During the world premiere run of WEST BY GOD (playing September  27 through October 20, 2019), Boiler Room Series will produce readings of additional new works by local playwright and company member Brandon McCoy. Readings are free and open to all and will be followed by discussions with the playwright.

Studio Theatre is extending its season-opening production of Doubt: A Parable, adding five performances through October 13, 2019. John Patrick Shanley's masterpiece received the Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize for its compelling interrogation of certitude and scandal within the Catholic Church. Studio's production is directed by the theatre's Associate Artistic Director Matt Torney and is anchored by DC theatre treasure Sarah Marshall, distinguished by having performed at Studio more than any other actor. Joining Marshall are Christian Conn (Studio Theatre's Venus in Fur) as Father Flynn, Amelia Pedlow as Sister James, and Tiffany M. Thompson as Mrs. Muller.

Launching its first production of the 2019-2020 season, Creative Cauldron presents the regional premiere of the Off-Broadway sellout smash hit Disenchanted! Set in the present-day, a posse of storybook princesses, led by Snow White, ditch the damsels-in-distress diatribe and tell some hilarious truths about those so-called a?oehappily-ever-aftera?? endings. Serving up the irresistible songs and wit of playwright, composer, and lyricist Dennis T. Giacino is the critically acclaimed team of director Matt Conner, musical director Elisa Rosman, Scenic and Costume Designer Margie Jervis, and Lighting Designer Lynn Joslin. The production will run through October 27 at Creative Cauldron, 410 South Maple Avenue, Falls Church, VA. Alexander Burnett Stars In UNEXPECTED TURBULENCE: A New Play

Fresh off its 2019 Edinburgh Fringe debut, Unexpected Turbulence provides a darkly comic glimpse into the life of Crystelle Desjardins, a brassy French stewardess whose crusade to capture the title of 'Best Flight Attendant in the Fleet' goes seriously awry. While the action of this solo piece takes place in the cramped aisles and galleys of an Ohio-bound plane, Alexander Burnett, who performs the show entirely in drag, hopes that Crystelle and the passengers she meets will feel larger than life.
