Best Little Whorehouse to be Next Actors' Fund Concert

The Actors' Fund of America has announced its sixth annual Fall Benefit Concert, a one-night-only original concert production of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. The proceeds will support the national human services programs of The Actors' Fund, serving professionals in entertainment and performing arts who are in need, crisis, or transition.
The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas is set for Monday, October 16th, at 7:30 at the August Wilson Theatre (245 West 52nd Street), continuing the tradition of special benefit concerts that began with the 20th Anniversary Concert of Dreamgirls through last year's acclaimed production of On the Twentieth Century.The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas was written by Larry L. King and Peter Masterson, and was based on the infamous Texas brothel known as the Chicken Ranch. Returning for his sixth concert for The Fund is Artistic Producer and Musical Director Seth Rudetsky. The evening will be produced by Steven Yuhasz and Tim Pinckney. With music and lyrics by Carol Hall, Whorehouse originally opened on Broadway in 1978 and ran for almost four years, racking up 1,584 performances in its initial outing. The show was originally directed by Masterson and Tommy Tune, with choreography by Tune. In 1982, the musical was made into a film, starring Burt Reynolds and Dolly Parton.
