Giuseppe Verdi's opera follows Violetta Valéry, a charming Parisian courtesan whose famous parties attract the city's most fashionable residents, secretly aware that time is running out for her. When young Alfredo persuades her to take a chance on love, Violetta chooses a simpler life beyond the glittering salons she has always known, but society closes in around them. Kathryn Lewek and Lucia Cesaroni share the role of Violetta, with Long Long and Luke Norvell as Alfredo, and Russell Braun and Reginald Smith, Jr. as Giorgio Germont. Directed by Arin Arbus, revived by Mo Zhou, and conducted by Paolo Carignani with the COC Orchestra and COC Chorus.

The Canadian Opera Company marked its return-to-stage after nearly two years with this all-around stunning production of one of Verdi’s most well-known works. Clocking in at just shy of three hours, the four-act opera tells the tale of Parisian courtesan Violetta (Amina Edris, making her COC debut) and her lover Alfredo (Matthew Polenzani).
