The National Ballet of Canada's Summer Season opens with the world premiere of Kismet, a new work by Canadian choreographer Jera Wolfe, performed on a double bill with Helen Pickett's Emma Bovary at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts. In Kismet, Wolfe draws on classical ballet, contemporary movement, and Indigenous expression to explore the concept of fate and humanity's relationship with nature, set to two movements from Ezio Bosso's Symphony No. 2. Pickett's Emma Bovary, which premiered in 2023 and returns with additional scenes, is co-directed by James Bonas and draws from Gustave Flaubert's novel Madame Bovary, exploring desire, betrayal, and the search for personal fulfillment.
