In time for Black History Month, BroadwayHD, the premiere streaming service for live theater in the US and countries across the globe, has pulled together a special playlist that honors African Americans on the stage. From Audra McDonald as Billie Holiday in Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill, to Duke Ellington's Sophisticated Ladies, and the galvanizing drama Pipeline, by award-winning playwright Dominique Morriseau, BroadwayHD presents this month hours of exciting theater celebrating the writing, performances, and music of some of the most talented individuals to ever appear on the stage.

Since making its Broadway debut in 1959, Rodgers and Hammerstein's perennial classic has been embraced by audiences around the globe.  Now, in celebration of its 60th anniversary, THE SOUND OF MUSIC LIVE, an ambitious, live-broadcast production from BAFTA-nominated director Coky Giedroyc, will be released on BroadwayHD on January 31.  

 BroadwayHD, the premier streaming service for live theater, is set to release the electrifying musical A Night with Janis Joplin to its platform on January 19th.   Starring Mary Bridget Davies, Broadway's original 'Janis' in her Tony Award® nominated performance, the show was filmed live during one of its final performances on October 4, 2018 at La Mirada Theatre for The Performing Arts in Los Angeles. The release of BroadwayHD's groundbreaking live-capture of the show will coincide with the anniversary of the rock icon's birthday, while ushering in the 50th anniversary celebration of Woodstock and her famed performance at the legendary concert.

BroadwayHD is about to rock 'n' roll! This new year will bring the 48th anniversary of Janis Joplin's untimely death and 50th anniversary celebration for Woodstock, so BroadwayHD is opening the new year by releasing A NIGHT WITH Janis Joplin starring the show's Tony-nominated star Mary Bridget Davies. The cast will also feature Aurianna Angelique, Ashley Támar Davis, Tawny Dolley, Paige McNamara and Jennifer Leigh Warren. This tribute to the iconic rock star will be released on what would have been her 76th birthday, January 19.

Lincoln Center Theater's multi-award winning and critically acclaimed production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's legendary musical The King and I is making its debut today on BroadwayHD.  Called 'a hit' by the Times of London and 'complete rapture' by the Telegraph, this joyous and captivating rendition stars Kelli O'Hara as she reprises her Tony Award®-winning role as Anna, alongside Tony and Oscar nominee Ken Watanabe as The King.  It also marks the crowd-pleasing return of Ruthie Ann Miles in her Tony Award®-winning role as Lady Thiang.  Supported by a company of over 50 dazzling performers, this not-to-miss stage spectacular features one of the finest scores ever written with show-stopping hits like 'Whistle a Happy Tune,' 'Getting to Know You,' and 'Shall We Dance.' 

Just in time for the holidays, The Olivier Award-Winning Mischief Theatre Company's A Christmas Carol Goes Wrong will be available to stream on BroadwayHD. This special marks the first production Mischief Theatre has made solely for television consumption. The company's first US venture, The Play That Goes Wrong, celebrates its standing as the longest running play currently on Broadway. The original airing of A Christmas Carol Goes Wrong garnered a live viewership of 4 million people in the UK, and will available for the first time in the US & Canada.

Today, BroadwayHD makes the world streaming debut of PIPELINE, a play depicting a mother's hopes for her son and their clash with an educational system rigged against him. The powerful work was captured for the screen by Live From Lincoln Center during its original, critically acclaimed staging at Lincoln Center Theater in 2017. The arrival of BroadwayHD will give theater lovers more than 250 live productions to view from any platform they choose for a monthly or yearly subscription. Last week, BroadwayHD released the filmed version of the 2003 Olivier Award winning National Theater production of JERRY SPRINGER THE OPERA. Written by Richard Thomas and Stewart Lee, after it's acclaimed London premiere, the one-of-a-kind show made its way to New York City for a concert staging at Carnegie Hall in 2008, then later as part of the Off Broadway troupe New Group's 2017-18 season.

Last month, BroadwayHD premiered a collection of 10 titles (eight live productions and two original documentaries) based on the avant-garde entertainment company Cirque du Soleil's most successful live events to date. All 10 of the titles are currently streaming.

The BroadwayHD digital capture is a multi-camera shoot of the award winning stageplay with book and lyrics by Tony winner, Joe DiPietro, and music by Tony winner,David Bryan. The film and musical tell the story of an aspiring environmental scientist, Melvin, who vows to clean up his home state of New Jersey from chronic pollution. The townspeople doubt Melvin's ability to find a solution to hazardous chemicals, throw him into a vat of toxic waste, which turns him into a superpower avenger, he finds a girlfriend and you guessed it, he ends up saving the planet. DiPietro and Bryan took the original campy elements, added hysterical lyrics and hum along tunes and created a new musical destined to become its own cult classic.

One dance craze that has proved its staying power is Riverdance. The awe-inspiring display of tap and Irish step dancing grew from the Michael Flatley signature event to an international phenomenon that spans cultures and countries. It's become a powerful movement in the world of dance, bringing a style usually reserved for tradition into the mainstream.
