Maltz Jupiter Theatre's 2012/13 Limited Engagements Go On Sale Today, 5/7

The Maltz Jupiter Theatre is kicking off its 10^th anniversary season celebration with a spectacular lineup of outstanding concerts, plays, special events and more!

Tickets to the Theatre's 2012/2013 season of limited engagements and two special productions go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. today, May 7, 2012.

To celebrate the 10^th anniversary season, the Theatre is bringing back the “top ten” most popular limited engagements of past seasons, including a New Year’s Eve show for Capitol Steps (Dec. 31), The Celtic Tenors (March 18) and the John Pizzarelli Quartet(March 27), all sponsored by Kretzer Piano.

“In addition to the season of shows we produce, we are so proud of the wonderful series of concerts and other performances we present,” said Andrew Kato, the Theatre’s producing artistic director. “In honor of our 10^th anniversary, we are thrilled to be bringing back limited engagements that have all been sell-out shows in previous seasons.”

The Theatre will also offer a contemporary retelling of the children’s classic Alice in Wonderland for families with the all-new showThrough the Looking Glass (Oct. 12), sponsored by the Elmore Family Foundation and Muriel and Ralph Saltzman, and The Laramie Project (Sept. 8), presented by local high school students as part of the Theatre’s Youth Artists’ Chair program.

A benefit concert is also planned for the 10^th anniversary season: the Stan Kenton Tribute Orchestra (Nov. 16), presented by the Maltz Jupiter Theatre Guild, features a high-energy big band under the leadership of Dennis Noday playing all of the Stan Kenton jazz classics, including “Artistry in Rhythm,” “Intermission Riff,” and more. The show is sponsored by Kretzer Piano.

“We are truly looking forward to the Guild’s benefit concert, the Stan Kenton Tribute Orchestra, which is sure to be one of our most popular shows yet," Kato said. “From day one, the Guild has been a vital part of the Theatre and continues to be instrumental in supporting the Theatre in its growth and stability, as well as furthering its recognition as the premier regional theatre in Florida.”

Saturday, September 8 – The Laramie Project
Presented by local high school students as part of the Maltz Jupiter Theatre’s Youth Artists’ Chair program, the Laramie Project is about the brutal murder of gay college student Matthew Shepard in Laramie, Wyoming, in 1998. Interviews with local citizens and officials unveil the hate crime and its aftermath. The play explores the depths to which humanity can sink and the heights of compassion in which we are capable. Showtime is 8 p.m.

Friday, October 12 – Through the Looking Glass
A contemporary retelling of the children’s classic Alice in Wonderland, Through the Looking Glass comes to life with eye-popping sets, costumes, magic and puppetry. In a colorful land where animals talk and characters amuse, 12-year-old Alice learns to “look in the mirror” and see the truly special person she is. With an exciting original pop score, this adventure is filled with fun twists the entire family will enjoy. Friday, November 16 – Maltz Jupiter Theatre Guild presents the Stan Kenton Tribute Orchestra
Under the leadership of Dennis Noday, this high-energy big band plays all of the Stan Kenton jazz classics featuring “Artistry in Rhythm,” “Intermission Riff,” and more. With a fresh and uniquely powerful sound resulted that forever changed the big band jazz world, Kenton’s music is undoubtedly as provocative today as it was 60 years ago! Tuesday, December 18 – Palm Beach Gardens Concert Band
In what has become an annual tradition, this is your chance to hear popular and traditional Christmas songs played by the full band – plus surprise performances by vocal and instrumental soloists – in a joyous celebration of the holiday season. Under the direction of well-known music educator Randy Sonntag, performers in the not-for-profit concert band range in age from 16 to 90, and include professional musicians, retired music teachers and students. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. All tickets are $15.

Monday, December 31 – Capitol Steps - New Year’s Eve
The political satire group that put “mock” in democracy is back with a hilarious new show to ring in the New Year. Come along for the ride as they take a humorous look at some serious issues in an all-new show! Showtimes are 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tickets are $50, $60 and $85 for special VIP seats with champagne toast, and meet and greet. Sponsored by Kretzer Piano.

Monday, January 14 – Defending the Caveman
The longest-running solo play in Broadway history focuses on the hilarious ways men and women relate. Seen in 45 countries and translated into 18 different languages, the “outrageously funny and surprisingly sweet exploration of the gender gap” (Chicago Sun-Times) has made Defending the Caveman “a comic phenomenon.” (New York Times). Showtimes are 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. All tickets $40.

Sunday, January 20 – Late Nite Catechism
An uproariously funny play that takes the audience back to their youth. The irrepressible Sister teaches class to a roomful of “students” filled with audience participation. Call it Loretta Young meets Carol Burnett; this interactive comedy is part catechism class, part stand-up routine. The New York Times calls it "hilarious, well-written and inspired." Showtime is 8 p.m. All tickets are $40.

Monday, January 21 – Chris MacDonald’s Memories of Elvis
Celebrate the life and music of Elvis Presley in honor of his 78th birthday. Chris MacDonald has performed in Las Vegas, Branson,Legends in Concert and is the only tribute artist hired by Elvis Presley Enterprises to perform at Graceland’s Heartbreak Hotel. Join Chris MacDonald with his dynamic band and dancers for a tribute to the King of Rock and Roll. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. All tickets are $45.

Monday, January 28 – Jay and The Americans
Very few bands have reached the musical heights of Jay and the Americans, which charted an unprecedented 12 top-10 records from 1962-1971. The ’60s pop legends sing “This Magic Moment” and other hit songs including “She Cried,” “Only in America,” “Come a Little Bit Closer,” “Tonight” and “Cara Mia.” This is a classic show you won’t want to miss! Showtime is 7:30 p.m. All tickets $50. VIP meet and greet tickets $65.

Monday, February 18 – The Platters
Take a trip down memory lane with the smooth sophisticated sounds that helped launch Doo Wop music. Singing hits such as “Only You (And You Alone),” “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes,” and “Great Pretender,” their harmonies and arrangements will take you back in time. One of the most successful vocal groups of the early rock and roll era, the Platters’ distinctive sound and unique style provided a bridge between the pre-rock Tin Pan Alley tradition and the burgeoning new genre of Doo Wop. Sunday, March 10 – The Second City: Laughing Matters
From the company that launched the careers of Tina Fey, Steve Carell, and more, comes the next generation of the comedy world’s best and brightest in an evening of hilarious sketch comedy and Second City’s trademark improve style. It has been the training ground for a host of famous alumni, including John Belushi, Bill Murray, Gilda Radner, Stephen Colbert and more than 500 others. Showtime is 8 p.m. All tickets are $40. Monday, March 11 – Roger McGuinn
The front man and founder of The Byrds is famous for such hits as “Turn, Turn, Turn,” “Eight Miles High” and “ Mr. Tambourine Man.” As a successful solo artist, he has opened for Bob Dylan, Tom Petty and others, to critical acclaim. He continues to have a huge following among folk music fans. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. All tickets are $35.

Monday, March18 – The Celtic Tenors
Celebrate your roots as the classical crossover group performs a mix of Irish, folk and pop just in time for St. Patrick’s Day. The Celtic Tenors continue to pioneer a new style of ‘cool’ never before seen on the classical stage. Their live show is an experience overflowing with vitality and variety, from start to finish. Wednesday, March 27 – John Pizzarelli Quartet
A world-renowned jazz guitarist and singer, John Pizzarelli has been called “Hip with a wink” by Town & Country, “madly creative” by the Los Angeles Times and “the genial genius of the guitar” by The Toronto Star. John Pizzarelli has established himself as one of the prime interpreters of the great American songbook and beyond, bringing to his work the cool jazz flavor of his brilliant guitar playing and singing. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. All tickets are $50.
