The History Boys has won several awards, including Best Play at the New York Drama Critics Circle Awards. Alan Bennett, the playwright, received the Outstanding New Play award at the Drama Desk Awards, while Nicholas Hytner won the Outstanding Director of a Play award at the same ceremony. The production was also recognized with the Distinguished Production of a Play award at the Drama League Awards and the Outstanding Broadway Play award at the Outer Critics Circle Awards. Nicholas Hytner was once again honored with the Outstanding Director of a Play award at the Outer Critics Circle Awards. Additionally, Richard Griffiths, a cast member, received the Performance award at the Theatre World Awards.
