Shakespeare's Globe has announced the 201920 Sam Wanamaker Playhouse Season. Centred around She Wolves and Shrews, the season is a celebration and interrogation of women, power, and the role of the feminine in shaping our past, present and future. The candlelit Sam Wanamaker Playhouse will play host to a world-premiere of Ella Hickson's new play Swive [Elizabeth], Shakespeare's Henry VI, Richard III, and The Taming of the Shrew, and Middleton's Women Beware Women. Sandi and Jenifer Toksvig have written a new family show dubbed, Christmas at the (Snow) Globe, and a series of candlelit ghost tales will include a new story from Jeanette Winterson. Other events running throughout the season include half-term storytelling festival, Half Term Tales at the Globe, with the new Children's Laureate Cressida Cowell, and a double bill of Virginia Woolf's A Room of One's Own and Three Guineas, marking the centenary year since the removal of the sex disqualification act. The Globe's flagship project for secondary and post-16 students, Playing Shakespeare with Deutsche Bank, reaches its 14th year with Macbeth.

Shakespeare's Globe is delighted to announce its upcoming programme of events to mark Refugee Week, taking place between 17 and 23 June 2019. Shakespeare's Globe is delighted to announce the programme for 'Shakespeare and Race', a new festival of events opening 11 August. This is the first time in the Globe's twenty-year history that the topic will be explored in depth over a week. Curated to draw attention to and provide a platform for scholars, practitioners and educators of colour in the teaching, study and performance of Shakespeare, this festival will highlight the importance of race to the consideration of Shakespeare not only in his time, but more urgently, in our own. The festival includes a play American Moor by Keith Hamilton Cobb, a workshop entitled Staging Race and Diversity in the Shakespearean Theatre, The Sam Wanamaker Fellowship Lecture is to be given by Professor Kim F. Hall, a pre-show talk for Emilia with Morgan-Lloyd Malcolm, a panel discussion of actors who have played Othello, and an international symposium featuring Kimberle Crenshaw, Professor of Law at Columbia Law School and UCLA, who coined the term 'intersectionality'. The festival starts and finishes with two theatre productions, Voices in the Dark and Hip-hop Shakespeare Unplugged.

The French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) and Skylark Vocal Ensemble present Clear Voices in the Dark, an evening of French and American song on Thursday, April 27 at FIAF's Florence Gould Hall. The nationally acclaimed chamber group will perform an immersive concert interspersing songs from the American Civil War with Francis Poulenc's challenging and rarely performed Figure Humaine in a special 70th-anniversary presentation.

On Thursday, April 27, 2017 at 7:30pm, Skylark Vocal Ensemble and the French Institute Alliance Francaise (FIAF) present Clear Voices in the Dark, an immersive concert interspersing songs from the American Civil War with Francis Poulenc's challenging and rarely performed Figure Humaine, at Florence Gould Hall (55 E. 59th St.). Formed in 2011 by Artistic Director Matthew Guard, Skylark is a premiere a cappella vocal ensemble of leading American vocal soloists based in Atlanta and Boston. Skylark's music has been described as "sublimely beautiful" (Opera Obsession), and the group's lustrous voices have been praised for their ability to "sway you softly into calm and then all but throw you across the room with sheer harmonic force" ("Music for Writers," Thought Catalog).

The play, adapted by John Pielmeier, enjoyed a run at Los Angeles' Geffen Playhouse in 2012, starring Richard Chamberlain and Brooke Shields. Production details have not yet been announced.
