Victor/Victoria - 2004 - London Fringe Tickets, News, Info & More

Based on the film by Blake Edwards and the 1933 German film Viktor und Viktoria

A woman pretending to be a man pretending to be a woman?! It’s a piece of cake for out-of-work soprano Victoria Grant in this hillarious, fun-filled romp through 1930s Paris. Based on the side-splitting seven-time Oscar-nominated Blake Edwards film and backed by an exhilarating Academy Award®-winning score by the great Henry Mancini, Victor/Victoria is a warm and wildly energetic look at gender perceptions as seen through the eternal battle of the sexes. The classic film comes to the stage with a set of show-stopping numbers that range from the electrifying “Le Jazz Hot,” to the heart-rending “Almost a Love Song,” and “Crazy World.” A comical and touching celebration of the many facets of love, Victor/Victoria has it all! Performed at The Robert G. Reim Theatre in Kirkwood (111 S. Geyer Rd.).

The antics of the Wicksteed home are a darkly satirical merry-go-round in Alan Bennett's Habeas Corpus.  Family, friends and the quest for sexual pleasures of the body (“corpus”) are the ruling passions in this farcical comedy of ill-manners. Through an escapade of mistaken identities and carnal encounters, one motto holds fast: “He whose lust lasts, lasts longest.”

The wonderful, magical part of MOSTLY MARLENE is that Kim David Smith plays none of it for camp. He winks at the audience, to be sure, but the evening is an honest and loving tribute to Marlene, the world she inhabited, and the fans who adored her. He captures her signature style: the languid delivery, the fluid gestures, the almost predatory sexuality, and those breathtaking moments when she became so still and internal it was a little spooky. None of it feels natural, and that’s precisely the point. Marlene Dietrich always let the audience in on the fact that they weren’t watching reality, they were watching an inspired creation. Kim David Smith is inspired, indeed.

A smile brings many benefits, one of them is in our health. How is that possible? Simple, it releases endorphins or the 'happiness hormones' which help fight stress, improves oxygenation of the blood as the lungs expand and more air enters, also digestion improves as the diaphragm moves and facilitates the digestive process, and last but not least prolongs life up to 4 more years.
