Review: THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG at Downtown Cabaret Theatre
by Sean Fallon - Apr 25, 2026

On Saturday, April 25th, at 12:00 PM, I saw the newest Theatre for Young Audiences production at the Downtown Cabaret Theatre in Bridgeport, CT, THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG. The Theatre for Young Audiences shows at Downtown Cabaret Theatre continue to entertain the entire family! This one breaks the fourth wall in numerous ways, even encouraging the youth to audition to dance in the aisle during one part of the show, which got numerous children up and dancing, many of which may become future performers. The story is written by Robert Peterpaul and directed by Ashley DePascale, putting two of the Downtown Cabaret Theatre’s greatest stage performers behind the scenes, as other stars, both new and returning get to shine on stage.

Review: THE LION KING at Broadway Grand Rapids
by Brian Hilbrand - Apr 21, 2026

The Lion King has been touring North America for more than 23 years, and during that time has welcomed over 25 million theatergoers, making it North America’s longest-running and most-attended Broadway tour. Having already played more than 10,000 performances in over 90 cities across North America, The Lion King now proudly returns to the DeVos Performance Hall. Michigan talent takes center stage with Disney’s The Lion King, as several accomplished musicians bring their artistry to the acclaimed production. Music Director Karl Shymanovtiz, born in Southfield and raised in Warren, uses his Michigan upbringing to lead the orchestra. Guitarist Robert Tye, born and raised in Detroit and now a resident of Birmingham, adds dynamic rhythm and texture to the show’s powerful score. Flutist Darlene Drew (Interview), born in Detroit and raised in Dearborn Heights, and a Comstock Park resident, brings elegance to the woodwind section. Keyboardist Eric Banitt, from Marquette, contributes depth and energy to the production’s vibrant musical landscape.

Not too many of us miss high school, but there are always those memories from our high school days that we never truly forget. Whether or not those are fond memories is another story. Still, it’s not a theme that you’d likely imagine for a cabaret, unless you happen to be Rachel Potter.
