The Echo Theater Company presents an irreverent, darkly funny coming-of-age story that explores racial identity, privilege and pop culture with insight, passion and biting humor. Ahmed Best directs the Los Angeles premiere of Hooded, or Being Black for Dummies by rising-star playwright Tearrance Arvelle Chisholm, set to open March 12 for a six-week run through April 18. Three “pay what you want” previews take place on March 9, March 10 and March 11.

The Library of Congress has released hours of previously unseen interviews with late composer-lyricist Stephen Sondheim. Sondheim discusses Into the Woods, Assassins,  Sunday in the Park With George, Sweeney Todd and more. 

The Choral Artists of Sarasota named its apprentice scholarship in honor of Dr. Ann Stephenson-Moe. The announcement was made on Saturday, January 22, at a reception hosted by Gretchen Rimmer. The reception was a fundraiser in support of Choral Artists’ education and outreach programs and the apprentice scholarship. The presentation celebrated Stephenson-Moe for her achievements and featured a performance by the New York-based Gilbert & Sullivan Players.

The Ensemble Company, the theatre company in residence at Penguin Point Productions located in the Oviedo Mall, opens its 2022 season—its fourth--with Richard Greenberg's Three Days of Rain, opening January 14th.

CHICAGO did not perform this past Saturday night after employees at the Ambassador Theatre tested positive for the COVID virus.  Out of an abundance of caution, there will be no Monday or Tuesday performance (The show does not play on Wednesdays).

Chicago will celebrate 25 years on Broadway tomorrow Tuesday, November 16th at 6:30PM with a very special performance. On Saturday, October 2nd, the Sharon Playhouse will present a star-studded and glittering salute to EGOT recipient and Broadway’s Uber Maestro, the great Jonathan Tunick. The evening is conceived and directed by Alan M-L Wager and supported by a 27-piece orchestra with appearances by Broadway Guest Stars and Broadway Special Guests.

Everything came up roses tonight at the reopening of Chicago on Broadway as the company tossed handfuls of rose petals to celebrate their first curtain call back at the Ambassador! 

At tonight's reopening of Broadway's Chicago, the show's director Walter Bobbie paid tribute to the production's legendary choreographer and original star, Ann Reinking, who passed away in December 2020.

Producers Barry and Fran Weissler have just announced casting for the Broadway company of CHICAGO, which resumes performances at the Ambassador Theatre (219 W 49th St, NYC) on Tuesday, September 14th. Leading the company will be Bianca Marroquín making her debut in the role of Velma Kelly, Tony Award-winner Lillias White as Matron “Mama” Morton, Raymond Bokhour as Amos Hart and Ryan Lowe as Mary Sunshine. Casting for the roles of Roxie Hart and Billy Flynn will officially be announced soon, but according to an Instagram post from casting office Stewart/Whitley, Ana Villafañe will play Roxie.
